The Glitter Fades
Mick arrived home 2 days later as early as he could for their three year anniversary. They shared a nice calm quiet night alone at home, having dinner on the deck and then shared the rest of the evening indoors. They made love with all the passion in the world, her; holding onto him calling out his name repeatedly until they were gratified. She let out a soft sigh and crawled into his arms. He kissed her goodnight and held her as she fell asleep.
The morning sun shone through the curtains and lit the room. She slowly awoke to the memories of the night before. She smiled moving holding her hand out beside her. She contiuned reaching until she realized there was nothing there. no one. She sat up some what alarmed and looked over her shoulder to the empty space beside her on their bed. A note caught her attention on his bedside table. She picked it up and read it to herself.
Dearest Stevie,
I'm am so sorry to leave you like this, the studio called me in early this morning and I couldn't refuse. I should be back around dinner if all goes well. I had a wonderful night last night, love Mick.
She dropped the letter on the bed beside her. He had left again. That's all he seemed to be doing lately. If he wasn't off in a different state he was in the damned studio. She felt like he didn't care anymore. Like she was *just* his wife. He never made time for her anymore. She felt like she was being used. He must see her as a good cook and an easy lay. A tear slid down her cheek. She couldn't remember the last time they woke up together. Or the last time HE made HER dinner, or breakfast or ANYTHING around the house. He was too infacutated with work that he couldn't make time for his own wife. She wiped her cheeks as she realized she was full out sobbing now. She ripped the note in shreds and threw them around the room in anger. She layed back down on the bed curling into a ball and crying with all the devastation in her.
There was no use staying home anymore. She could only clean so much. The house could only be so clean. She walked in the studio door with her purse and took her seat on the couch, as she usually did. No one was there yet except for Carol Ann at the desk and she assumed Mick and John were in the sound room. She went into the kitchen and warmed up some tea, adding (as she always did) hazelnut. On her way back in she saw Carol. "I'm going to get the guys some drinks? You want any?"
"Uh... maybe some brandy."
"Okay."
Carol Ann left and Stevie sat back down on the couch. She pulled out her compact mirror to check her hair. As she was about to close it she noticed how her eyes were red and puffy from crying this morning. She checked her bag for some powder but found nothing. She would just have to say it's allergies. She sat on the couch in silence sipping her tea until she heard the front doors open. Lindsey walked in with his guitar strapped to his back. He had a pair of blue jeans on with a white v-neck tea shirt on, gathered in just the right areas revealing his abs. She looked down at her tea trying to hide her eyes, hoping he wouldn't notice her. If he was anything like the other guys he'd go straight to the back. But he didn't. He stopped to say hello to her. "Hey Stevie..."
"Hi."
She simply responded. "Please go away, please go away, please go away." She prayed silently. She heard him set down his guitar. He came over and was about to ask how her weekend went, when he stepped into view of her face. "Stevie, are you alright?"
Jigs up. "Yeah." She said. "Just allergies, I guess."
He didn't believe her but dismissed the curiosity as to why she'd clearly been crying. He nodded. Just as he thoght she was about to shun him off again, she spoke up. "What about you? How was your weekend?"
"Oh, good." He said.
"My parents came down."
"Oh that's nice."
Lindsey took a seat beside her on the couch and they continued with the small talk until John came out and called him in. "Well see you around."
She smiled back at him. Maybe she could learn not to hate him. He seemed like a nice guy.
