After playing with the engine for about an hour it finally roared back to life.
"There we go. I was starting to get worried. I thought that maybe she had given up on me"
I looked at the truck confused.
"Couldn't you just get a new one?"
He leaned against the bonnet looking up into the sky.
"I could never give her up. She belonged to my dad"
"I thought you didn-"
"Even when I say I don't like him, a part of me still misses him"
He looked at the ground upset.
I grabbed his hand and gently kissed it.
"Gilbert, your one special person"
He laughed sarcastically.
"A special person doesn't drop out of school when he's thirteen or make out with someone twice his age. In fact they do the exact opposite"
I turned him around so that he was facing me directly.
"What you're doing, you're doing for your family and you know that"
His eyes locked with mine with a sense of anger and pain.
"Yeah, I may seem like a nice family orientated guy but on the inside I'm hurting. I don't want to be restricted from the world because of the needs of my family. Kaziah I want to live my life because at the moment I'm living everyone else besides my own"
"You just need to wait a little. There's always an open door, all you have to do is find it"
He looked at me a little hurt.
"Look I better get you home before your Aunty calls the cops on me for kidnapping or something"

The ride home was silent and eerie.
Neither of us had the urge to talk.
It was as if we had lost connection with each other.
I reluctantly closed my eyes and gave into the desires of my imagination.

My eyes slowly opened before the truck pulled into my Aunty's driveway.
Gilbert waited silently for me to leave.
I was going to open the door but decided to softly kiss his cheek instead.
"If only you could see the world the way I see it then you'll truly appreciate the way you are and what you do"
Before I managed to hop out, he grabbed my hand and tenderly held it to his chest.
"Kaziah"
"Hmm?"
"Thank you but I really don't see myself as a special person"
I laughed gently before hopping out.
"Beauty is in the eye of beholder, never forget that"

I knocked on the door for about a minute until my Aunty answered it. She didn't seem like her usual supple looking self. She looked flustered and tired.
Wow I leave for one day and you'll think I've been gone for a year.
"Kaziah where the hell have you been?!"
I was surprised at her intensity.
"I was out with Gilbert and we fell asleep in his truck"
She looked annoyed and somewhat jealous.
"Oh, okay then. Next time you leave to go out let us know. Billy was worried sick about you and he kept on mentioning something about ice cream."
My heart dropped to the pit of my stomach.
I can't believe I forgot about Billy.
"Where is he?"
"I don't know but I need you to look after him and Anthony for awhile because I have a doctors appointment. I'll take Ralph with me"
"Is everything alright Aunty?"
"Yeah, I'm just been feeling under the weather lately that's all"
I smiled before rushing inside to Billy's room.
He was sitting on his bed staring intently at the wall.
"Billy?"
He looked at me momentarily before resuming his gaze.
I went and sat next to him placing my arm around his small frame. His body tensed under my touch. He didn't shake me off but I could tell he didn't like it.
"Billy, I'm so sorry. If I coul-"
"I thought you were different. I thought you were like me"
It hurt me to see him like this.
"I am like you it's just that something came up and-"
"What? Did Gilbert come up? I heard what you told my mom"
"Billy it's not what you thin-"
"Your not like me. Your like everybody else. You make promises only to then turn around and brake them"
He stood up and walked out of the room.
I sat there, mentally abusing myself with the same sentence.
"If only I remembered"
