I'm sitting legs folded on my bed, trying to think of excuses to get up. I close my eyes, letting my mind wander into the depths of my imagination.

Billy saunters into my room, curious as to why I was so quiet.

"Kaziah? Are you okay?"

I reluctantly opened my eyes to find a genuinely concerned Billy.

"Just drowning, that's all"

He came closer and gently jumped into my lap.

"How? There's no water?"

"No need. Your mind is enough"

He grabbed my hand and tenderly held it to his heart.

"Are you really leaving me when the baby comes?"

"I have to. Gilbert needs me"

"B-but I need you more"

His eyes begun to blur with tears.

"I promised him tha-"

"T-then take me with you.....don't leave me behind"

I wrapped him up in my arms, letting him burrow his face into the crook of my neck.

"Billy...you need to stay here. Your brothers need you. Your mom needs you. Your da-"

"If my dad needed me, he never would have left"

I cupped his cheek with my hand.

"Your dad had his reasons Billy, you know that"

"Yeah, I know....I feel alone that's all"

I bent down and kissed his forehead.

"I'm always going to be with you. Never forget that"

He peered up at me confused.

"How?"

I pointed to his heart.

"I'll be here,always"

I walked into the kitchen with Billy by my side.

"Good Morning Aunty"

She looked up from her newspaper with a soft smile.

"Kaziah we'll be leaving for the doctors soon. I'll really appreciate it if you would come with us"

I winced at the idea. Seeing my aunty heavily pregnant with Gilberts baby is hard enough let alone sitting in a doctors office for an hour talking about it.

"Please...I was going to leave the gender of the child a surprise until delivery day but I can't wait and I thought since you're going to be its new mother that you'd want to know"

I stood there quietly, finding myself sensitive to the word 'mother'.

"Okay I'll come but I'm only coming in support for Gilbert"

She smiled weakly before returning to her newspaper.

I wistfully ate my breakfast, once again letting my mind wander into the unknown depths of my imagination.

"Kaziah, Gilberts here"

I looked up from my bowl a little startled

"Kaziah? Is everything alright?"

Gilbert looked at me a little worried.

"Of course, I was just wandering"

He looked around the kitchen confused.

"Where?"

I couldn't help but laugh.

"I was wandering up here" I pointed to my head.

He laughed and came and sat next to me.

"Are you ready?"

I sighed deeply.

"Ready then I'll ever be"
