Billy looks up at me pleadingly.
"You wouldn't do that to me right Kaziah? You wouldn't leave me behind?"
It felt like my insides were eating themselves.
"I-I.....don't know"
He eyes became hollow and cold.
"I thought that would have been an easy question for someone who I thought understood me"
"Billy I'm being squashed at both sides here"
"How?"
I was hurt at his harsh tone.
"I-I don't know how to say it but-"
He got up and walked away, not letting me finish.

I grabbed the phone book and flipped to the 'G' section.
I found Gilbert's number and dialled it into the phone.
My grip around the cord tighten, as I waited anxiously for someone to answer.
"Hello?"
A timid female voice answered.
"Hello, is this the Grape residence?"
There was a short pause before she replied.
".....Y-yes, may I ask whose calling"
I started to grow impatient.
"I'm Kaziah, I'm Gilbert's friend. I really need to talk to him, it's an emergency"
Her breathing started to become shallow and fast.
"W-What do you want with my son?"
My impatience for her disappeared.
"All I need to do is talk to him"
"A-about what?"
I made up a lie, not wanting to tell the truth just in case she had a heart attack or something.
".....T-the store we both work at has been r-robbed and all employees are being called in"
I waited anxiously hoping she'll buy into it.
"T-that's terrible.....I'll call Gilbert"
I sighed in relief, thankful she didn't catch me out.
"Kaziah! What happened to the store? Do you have any suspec-"
"Gilbert, the store is fine. I just really need to talk to you"
He was silent for a moment.
"Okay...so what's bothering you?"
"It's something we need to discuss in person. Doing it over the phone won't do us any good"
He didn't respond, making me feel nervous.
"Kaziah....is everything alrig-"
"Just please come and pick me up"
"Alright, I'll be there in ten"
My hands were sweating and my heart was trembling.
How was I going to tell him?

I changed into my oversized Mickey Mouse jumper and chucked on my favourite pair of ripped jeans. I pulled my hair into a messy bun not bothering to braid it.

I waited anxiously for Gilbert on the porch steps, practicing my whole 'you're going to be a father' speech in my head.

Gilbert's truck pulled up and I started walking towards it.
I stopped at the gate, too scared to go any closer.
My heart was practically jumping out of my chest.
"H-hey"
Gilbert hopped out of the truck and came and stood in front of me.
My gaze cowered to the ground, shy at how close we were.
He lifted my chin with his thumb, making me look into his eyes.
"What's bothering you?.....It has to be something big if you called me"
I gently grabbed his hand and placed it against my cheek, closing my eyes as I tried to savour the feeling.
He bent down and kissed me lightly on the lips, taking me off guard.
I closed my eyes once again, letting myself melt into his embrace.
He started kissing my jawline, then my neck.
"G-Gilbert?"
"Hmm?"
"We need to talk"
"We are talking"
I grabbed his shoulders and straighten him up.
"I called you here because we need to talk not.....k-kiss"
He chuckled.
"Fine, I'm sorry. Where do you wanna go?"
I couldn't wait longer.
"Your truck is fine"
He opened the passenger side door and I hopped in.
I started going through my speech as I waited for him to get in.
"So....What's happening?"
I looked at him for a brief moment, trying to mentally prepare myself.
"Gilly?"
"Hmm?"
"My Aunty's pregnant"
He reached over and hugged me even though I acted like a statue.
He sensed my mood and reluctantly pulled away.
"Aren't you happy for you Aunty and Uncle?"
Tears started forming in my eyes at his obliviousness.
"Kaziah?...Why are you acting strange?"
I grabbed his hand and squeezed it tightly.
"Gilbert my uncle isn't the father...y-you are"
