Gilbert looked at me with a blank expression.
"W-what?"
"You're going to be a father"
My throat tightened with pain.
"That's almost impossible....W-we only did it once"
He rested his head on the steering wheel in frustration.
"Kaziah....What am I going to do? I'm already in so much shit"
For the first time I didn't have an answer.
"Are you sure? M-maybe she forgot that she and your uncle ha-"
"Gilbert, I'm sure my aunty knows whether or not she had sex with her husband"
He closed his eyes in disappointment.
"I'm sorry"
I turned to him surprised at his humility.
"Sorry for what? My aunty should be the one apologising. She was the one who manipulated you an-"
"I'm sorry because I know you're in pain. I know you're hurting"
I moved closer to him and rested my head on his shoulder.
"I know everything seems dark right now but I promise you, there is always light at the end of the tunnel".
Gilbert looked at me confused.
"What could possibly lighten the darkness that engulfs us?"
"Well....My aunty has given you two options..."
"Which are?"
"She has an abortion and we continue on with our lives like nothing happened or she follows through with the pregnancy and you become a father"
He stared at me with deep thought.
"Kaziah....I don't want to be a father but I don't want to be a murderer either"
My heart sunk as his decision became clear.
