Hello Everyone!
Apologies for the late update. I've been caught up in school and normal life tasks but I have finally managed to find some time to do a chapter or two. For those readers who are die-hard fans of the original movie I've decided to take it into my own hands and change the story line. So my version of the story is a little different to how it goes in the movie. I just want to add a little bit of my personality and character into it. This chapter is extra long to make up for the late updates.
Enjoy!
~~~~~~~~~~
I woke up stiff and cold. My eyes trying to adjust to the Suns harsh glare through the window.I sat there for a minute until I realised I wasn't in my room in my Aunty's house. The usual smell of her eggs was replaced with the faint smell of cigarettes and sandalwood.
I turned around expecting to see him looking at me only to be disappointed by his absence.
Where did he go?
I pulled down the shade mirror and immediately started adjusting my hair. I didn't have a brush so I used my fingers instead. Not the most effective but you have to work with what you got. I finished and looked in the mirror. It's not my best work but it'll do.Gilbert tapped at the window, holding what seemed to be coffee.
I leaned over the drivers side and let him in.
The fresh smell of coffee filled his truck as he hopped in."Morning sleepy head".
I smiled sheepishly.
"Do you mind filling in the blanks because I honestly do not remember what happen last night or how I got here".
He laughed and handed me the coffee.
"After our talk we headed back to my truck. You fell asleep and I didn't want to wake you so I just parked outside of my house".
My eyes snapped towards the looming house before us. It looked old and majority of its exterior was wood but it seemed like home. A tree stood near by with a tire swing hung around one of its branches.I smiled, remembering how much I loved them. They reminded me of the very few times that my mom and dad really seemed like a family to me. We use to have one but my mom said it reminded her of my dad so she took it down.
"Gilbert?"
He turned around to face me, still managing to sip his coffee.
"Yeah?"
"Can I please use your bathroom?"
A blanket of nervousness suddenly dominated his face.
"W-why? Can't you just go behind those bushes over there?"
He pointed at the mass of bushes covering one side of his house.
"Buts it's cold and bushes can be unpredictable. Something could jump up and well...... you know"
He grabbed my hand and led me to the front step."Okay but if I let you go, you have to promise to only go to the bathroom. Don't wander. Just the bathroom and that's it"
I nodded my head in reply, curious to why he was so nervous.I found the bathroom and closed the door behind me. I turned and my eyes fell on Arnie who was happily playing in the bath tub.
"Arnie...geez I'm so sorry. I should have knocked"
He looked up at me momentarily.
"It's okay. Arnie should have locked the door. Arnie always forgets to lock the door".I turned around about to open the door when I heard a big thump.
Arnie slipped and fell out of the bath tub.
"Owwwwww. It hurts. Arnie's hurting".
I ran up to him, helping him up to his feet. His soft whimpers filling the silence.
We stared in each others eyes before his hands gently covered my face.
"Naughty. Arnie's not wearing anything".
I began blushing.
"S-sorry".
"It's okay. You can look now"
He covered himself with a ripped towel and sat on the edge of the bath tub.
My eyes wandered down to the fresh cuts on his knees.
"Arnie your bleeding"
He looked down a little shocked.
"Where's Gilly? Only Gilly knows how to fix these?"
I kneeled down and gently lifted his towel so I could see how bad they were.
"Gilly's a little busy right now but I'm sure I can help just like him"
He smiled softly.
"Okay"
I walked over to the cabinet above the basin and grabbed one of the many bottles of antiseptic. I had a feeling that Arnie was an accident prone because they had an abundance of medical supplies ranging from plasters to burn creams.He sat on the edge of the tub a little curious to see what I was going to do.
I crouched down and started patting his cuts with a cloth to get rid of any unwanted blood.
I looked up hoping he was alright and sure enough he was. So much so that he was smiling down at me.
"Okay Arnie, I need you to be strong for one minute"
"But Arnie's always strong. Gilly said that Arnie's always strong"
I bit my lip praying I hadn't started him off on another one of his fits.
"Arnie , I need you to be stronger like you've never been before........like Superman Strong"
His smile became even bigger and a little sigh escaped my lips.
Thank Goodness. The last thing we need is for Arnie to cry.
I grabbed a cotton ball and started pouring antiseptic onto it. The strong smell made my eyes water.
I gently placed the ball onto his cut, testing wether or not to go on or stop.
He sensed my mental barrier.
"It's okay, you can go on. Arnie's being Superman strong"
I dabbed both of his knees then covered them in plasters.
"There, fit as a fittle"
He laughed and jumped up from the tub.
"See I told you I can be like Gilly"
He turned around and shook his head.
"No,No. Be like K-Kaziah cause Arnie likes her better"
I couldn't help but smile.
~~~~~~~~
I walked down the stairs and met Ellen, Gilbert's sister. Ain't she special.
"Excuse me. You are?"
She looked at me expectantly.
"I'm sorry. Hi my name's Kaziah. I'm Gilbert's friend"
She laughed sarcastically.
"Sure whatever you say"
I followed her into the kitchen which was filled with the fresh smell of waffles.
"Ahhhhh...do you know where Gilbert is?"
She turned to me obviously annoyed.
"Your boy toy is outside trying to fix his stupid truck"
An older women appeared from behind the fridge door holding a cartoon of eggs.
"Ellen would you just be quiet already! Nobody asked for your foul attitude"
She looked at me and smiled.
"Hi Kaziah, I'm Amy and that's Ellen"
Ellen pulled the fingers and mouthed some words that probably aren't worth writing.
"Are you hungry? We have plenty. Please I insist"
She pointed at the table full of food and gestured for me to sit.
I sat down then immediately got up. I forgot about what Gilbert told me about only going to the bathroom.
Wow Kaziah, so much for respecting people's boundaries in their own home.
Ellen looked at me funny.
"What? Is this food not good enough for you? Did we do something wrong city girl?"
I smiled sheepishly. How did she know I was from the city?
" No not at all. Everything looks and smells delicious but I feel as though I'm intruding on something that should only be appreciated by the people who live under this roof"
Amy walked around and put her arm around my shoulders.
"Nonsense. Anyone who walks in through those doors immediately become part of this family."
I gently shrugged her off. It felt wrong. It was like taking off a blanket in the cold.
I wanted to stay and talk but I knew that I made a promise with Gilbert.
"It's really kind of you but I think I should go and help Gilbert out with the truck. It's the least I can do after last night"
Ellen suddenly became interested.
"Last night? No wonder why the trucks wasted. Bit too much rocking huh?"
"Ellen! That's enough."
Amy smiled at me.
"I'm sure my brother will appreciate the extra help"
~~~~~
I walked over to Gilbert, soaking in as much sun as I could.
"Did you have gastro or something?"
I looked at him puzzled.
" Huh?"
"You were in there for at least twenty minutes"
I laughed.
"Oh yeah. I was helping someone find their inner Superman."
He looked at me and smiled.
"Sometimes that's all we need"
