Scott's POV

I am confused. I have never felt this confused in his life. I don't know what to do with him. I can't just put all my standards aside and take him in. What will my pack think? They will think I'm a hypocrite. What would my parents think? They were killed by rogues. They would turn around in their grave if they knew I would be dating one. He is my mate though.

I sigh. I feel bad for leaving him there in the prison. He did nothing wrong. He didn't choose to be rogue.

Maybe I should talk to my beta, Kevin, about this. He is smart and strong and not biased. He always thinks clearly. That's what makes him a good beta.

I walk through the packhouse looking for Kevin. He is not only a good beta but also my best friend.

Is he even here? I haven't seen him since I stormed off to the cells. Oh of course, the cells. That's where he is.

I walk over the path through our village. I always felt proud to call this my pack. My village. All these people are under my command. It's a big responsibility but it's worth it.

"Hi alpha." People always greet me. They are all so nice because I treat them fairly. Alpha's can be very mean.

I look to the person who greeted me. "Kirst!" I quickly hug her. She's one of my best friend's girlfriend. She's very nice and great to be with.

"Where are you heading?" She asks, looking up at me. She is a small girl with blond hair and brown eyes. I always thought she is very pretty. Jeremy is a lucky man.

"The cells." I answer her question.

"Really, me too! We can walk together." She says excited. I smile, I think I already know why she is going there. "Why are you going there?" She asks me.

"I have to talk to Kevin." I don't think it's a good idea to tell her about Mitch. I love her very much but she talks a lot. I don't want her spilling anything to the pack. Accident or not.

We just talk a little about random things until we arrive at the cells where we both go our separate ways.

"KEVIN!" I yell through the building. I don't really want to go in the hallway with the cells. I don't want to see Mitch right now. That could cloud my judgement.

"Yes?" Kevin comes out of the cell corridor walking fast.

"Is there still someone guarding the cells?" I ask him. I know that Jeremy is in this building too but he's looking at files and stuff. Avi is out hunting with the just shifted children.

"Yeah, Toby is there." Toby is a guard wolf. One of the best. We can leave and talk in a private place now.

"Can I talk with you? Privately?" I ask him. I know he won't say no but I think it's nice to ask.

"Of course." He answers, looking down to the ground. He is afraid he's still in trouble because of yesterday?

"It's not bad I promise." I say softly. "I just need my best friend right now." He looks up into my eyes.

"Okay. Pack House?" That's a good idea. The pack house is empty now. I nod.

We walk to the pack house in silence. We have that kind of friendship where we don't always have to talk. We're comfortable with each other and it's fine if we talk or don't talk either way.

Kevin is 26, two years older than me. He found his mate when he was 20 and she was 18. They got married 3 years later. They don't have kids yet. I think they want to wait.

"So what do you want to talk about?" Kevin asks me. I'm kind of nervous. What will he say?

"That rogue you guys brought in yesterday, he is my mate." I decide to just dive in. No need to postpone it any further.

Kevin's eyes go wide. "I don't know what to say. Congrats?" He says. Most wolves find their mates between the ages of 18 and 21. After 21 chances that you find your mate will get smaller and smaller. "But why is he still in the cells? He is your mate." Kevin asks me, looking confused.

"He is a rogue, Kev. I can't just let him out." I go to sit on the couch. Kevin sits in the chair in front of me.

"I think you can if he's your mate, Scott. No one will blame you for that."

"But that's not fair! He just gets different treatment because he's my mate? I don't think that's fair." I say to him.

"Okay I see your point." Kevin says. I notice he is in his rationalise mode now. "So you talked to him yesterday?"

I nod. "I mean it's not like we had a whole conversation but he told me his name age and his background story." I add.

"And? Is he a bad rogue? Honestly, he doesn't look like one."

"He isn't. He was chasing a deer and ended up on our land." I think about his background story. Should I tell Kev? I probably should.

"Already thought so." Kevin says under his breath.

"He has been a rogue since he was 10. His whole pack was murdered and then he was captured and beaten for 2 years before he escaped." I tell him. I feel tears prickling in my eyes. I really had to hold back tears yesterday when he told me.

"Scott, are you serious?!" Kevin sounds almost angry at me. "What the hell is he still doing in those cells? He can't help it!" Kevin jumps up. He looks like he wants to get him out himself.

"I don't know, Kev. I just want to treat everyone fairly and not treat him better just because he is my mate."

"So you are saying that if he wasn't your mate you would let him rot in the cells for something he couldn't help?" Kevin says. I hadn't thought of it that way. I guess not, no. He is right. I have to get him out of the cells. He didn't do anything wrong.

I quickly stand up and make my way to the cells again. Kevin walks next to me with a smug grin on his face.

"What are you grinning about?" I know he was right. He doesn't need to rub it in my face.

"I just brought two mates together. Let me be proud." He says. I laugh. I'll let him be proud.

I will have my mate. And I'm going to treat him well. Like he deserves.
