Scott's POV

Today went great. I didn't expect anything less, I mean what is not to like about Mitch? Only thing I have to do is tell my grandparents how we met. I'm a little anxious how they are going to react.

"Can we go home?" A soft voice asks from behind me. I turn around to see Mitch standing there. He doesn't make eye contact.

"Are you okay?" He looks a bit shaken up and pale.

"I'm fine." He says still not looking in my eyes. I thought that went better.

I don't think people will like it when we leave this early but something is obviously wrong with Mitch and I'm going to find out what. "Okay, let's go." I say taking his hand.

"Kevin, we're going home. Mitch is not feeling well. Can you inform the pack?" I tell Kevin. He nods and goes to the rest of the pack.

I take Mitch's hand and together we walk home. He doesn't say anything during the walk but I can sense that something is wrong with him.

"You know you can tell me everything, right? I won't get mad." I try to make my voice less harsh and dominant. I want him to be comfortable with me.

He looks up at me, tears in his eyes. Something is really wrong and I want to fix it.

We have arrived at the front door of the pack house now.

I take him to sit on the couch with me. I make sure he sits directly next to me and not on the other side of the couch. I shift my body a bit so I'm looking at him.

"Come on, Mitch. Tell me what's going on." I rub circles on his hand with my thumb.

"I can't." He whispers looking down at his lap.

"Of course you can. You can just tell me, I won't get mad and I won't judge you. I promise." I really really want to know what's going on.

"No, you don't get it!" He suddenly says a lot louder and he is finally looking into my eyes. "He's going to kill me if I tell you!" He almost shouts before slapping his hand over his mouth.

I jump up from the couch, "WHO SAID THAT?!" I shout, it's not only my voice but my wolf's too. He is mad that someone is threatening his mate.

Mitch cowers back in the couch. Avoiding eye contact with me again.

Shit! I didn't mean to scare him. I slowly sit back on the couch again. "I'm sorry Mitch, I didn't mean to scare you. I'm just really mad at the person who said that to you." I run my hand up and down his arm.

He flinches away from my touch. At first I'm hurt but then I see the bruise on his arm. Calm, Scott, calm. I chant in my head.

I carefully take his arm is my hand and examine the bruise. It's hand shaped. Someone grabbed him so hard it left bruises. I can feel my anger bubbling inside. I try my best to keep it in, I don't want to scare Mitch any more.

I go to sit closer to Mitch and take his hands in mine. I lift my finger and carefully put it under his chin, tilting it up. I search his face, looking for a sign that he is uncomfortable. He slowly lifts his eyes to mine. "Mitch, can you please tell me what happened? I promise you that he won't touch you, I'll always be with you."

"I'm afraid." He whispers. I can barely hear it but luckily I'm sitting so close to him.

"I understand, but I promise I'll protect you. Please tell me what happened?" I trail my fingers up and down his arms, careful not to touch his burn or his bruise. He had been here for 2 days! 2 days! And he is already hurt multiple times. I'm doing a shitty job at being his mate, but also being his alpha. But I'll be better. I'll protect him no matter what happens.
