It's been quiet lately, too quiet. I felt like I lost everything over the past couple of weeks. Kaiyo, Aii, my team, my spirits, it all felt so lonely and empty.
Snow began to fall which meant the season was over for a while. But that didn't mean I was gonna stop practicing. I stuffed my hands in my pockets and walked towards the public pool. I looked up at the closed sign and sighed.
"Great" I mumbled to myself.
I saw someone else standing there and I turned to look at them. It was Kaiyo wearing a big jacket and a scarf wrapped around her neck. I smiled and she walked back over to me.
"Hey" she said.
"Hey, wanna go get some coffee?" I asked kindly.
She nodded as we headed towards the nearest cafe. We entered and she took off her jacket sitting down at a table near a window. I sighed and rested my head in my hands staring out the window as it continued to snow. Music played softly behind us and I caught Kai staring at me.
"How have you've been?" she asked.
I shrugged and took of sip of my drink. She looked out the window.
"You know what's weird?"
I looked back at her.
"Every snowflake is different"
I nodded and leaned back in my chair swirling my cup in a circle on the table.
"Have you've talked to Makoto lately?" I asked.
"Yeah..."
I nodded but didn't want to continue the conversation. I was already hurt at that point and don't know why I got involved with her in the first place, its just a distraction.
"I'm gonna head back, I got a lot of homework before breaks over" I sighed pushing my chair in.
Her mouth dropped and she looked at me hurt. I shook my head and walked away throwing my jacket around me stuffing my hands in my pockets again. I started to walk fast so I would lose her. I don't want to look at her because it makes me feel enraged and I just can't take it. I heard foot patters behind me but didn't bother to turn around. I felt warm arms around me and sighed. I grabbed her hands and pulled them off of me.
"Rin I-"
"No don't talk" I shuttered.
She stepped in front of me and she had warm tears running down her face. I gasped and my heart broke right then and there.
"Go back to Makoto, please don't make this harder than this already is" I scoffed.
"Makoto didn't take me back!" she shouted wiping away her tears yet they still came down her face.
My mouth dropped and I felt anger built up inside of me.
"I'm gonna pound his face in-" I started walking towards his house.
She grabbed my hand and stood there with her face hidden behind the fringe of her hair.
"I chose not to love him anymore Rin" she said quietly.
"What why?" I shook my head. "It's because he hurt you again huh!? I'm gonna kill him-"
"It's because I'm in love with you Rin!" she shouted angrily looking at me with tears in her eyes.
She let go of my hand and stood there silently. My breathe hitched as I slowly approached her wrapping my hands around her tightly. She cried softly into my chest as I smiled a little.
"I love you Rin" she mumbled.
"I love you too Kaiyo" I let the tears roll down my own face as we just stood there in the snowfall hugging each other.
I wasn't even cold at that point. I felt warm and safe to just be there. She looked up at me with a small smile spreading across her face. She pressed her lips on mine and everything seemed to slow down and I felt happy.
---
I rolled over and pushed a lock of hair behind Kaiyo's ear smiling. She snored lightly holding my other hand tightly. I kissed her forehead and wrapped my arms around her pressing her head against my bare chest.
"What do you want?" she mumbled fluttering her eyes open.
"What do you want?" I replied sarcastically.
"Do you wanna be with me? Do you wanna be, like, I don't know, dating me-" she shook her head.
I was a little taken aback but chuckled.
"You're my girlfriend, I want you"
She blushed and smiled a little bit pecking my lips.
"What an appropriate way to ask me" she rolled her eyes.
"Oh excuse me. Kaiyo Hamano will you be my girlfriend?" I asked grabbing her hands dramatically.
"Well, I mean, I guess if you insist" she giggled.
We both got out of bed and got dressed quickly. Walking outside to see Gou with the Iwatobi kids. Kaiyo's eyes went straight to Makoto and he smiled and waved at her. She gulped hard and crossed her arms over her chest. I felt jealously wave over me and I popped my neck from side to side.
"Oh hey guys what were you doing?" Nagisa smiled kindly at us.
"I lost something of Kaiyo's and she needed it back" I replied quickly.
She nodded and held her hands together rocking back and forth on her heels. They all smiled and nodded in sync. I looked down at her and she blushed madly making me smile back at her.
"Does anybody wanna go get some hot chocolate, hopefully this crazy snow storm passes. It doesn't snow this much does it?" Rei suggest trying to break the ice between everyone.
"Kaiyo and I have practice at the pool" I scoffed.
Kaiyo looked up at me and cocked her eyebrow. I looked down at her and smirked.
"Yeah so lets go" she replied grabbing my hand and stomping out of the room snatching my bag and walking for the door.
She slammed it behind her and sighed in relief. She stuffed her hands in her pocket snuggling her face into the top of her jacket.
"Hey" I mumbled.
She turned to me and looked like a little ninja. I chuckled at her a little.
"I love you" I finished.
"I love you too Rin Matsuoka" she cheered up.
