The snow melted away about a week ago and the sun seemed to never stop shining. It was almost spring and I could smell the chlorine from miles away. I couldn't wait for the season to start and to race with Kaiyo by my side would be even better. She told me that she got out of her funk and she's hasn't been happier in a long time. I say the same. She makes me want to race and not only defeat the Iwatobi team but to destroy them. They may be my friends but I'm never gonna go easy on them. I was determined to make our team win nationals this year since we had so much chaos last time. Kaiyo is really focused on her swimming now because scouts have been circling us like sharks. It is her last year and she wants to make it the best year. She isn't mad either that I'm swim team captain and she's co-captain. We miss Seijuro and especially Aii but we have to look forward for everyone and ourselves.

"Alright guys just because the season starting and I'm the new captain doesn't mean you can slack off lets go for a run alright?" I said to everyone clapping my hands.

"We'll be picking out new members this week to see who can make it on the official team since we have more students feeding into our school this year. There's a lot of kids who are trying out so work your hardest out there!" Kaiyo including smiling at everyone.

A couple new guys drooled over her dropping their shoulders and staring at her with hearts in their eyes. We all started to run around outside as the sun beat down on us. Kaiyo always seemed to pass me and I wanted to lap her to throw her off. She seemed a little sidetracked with this new season and all. 

"Kaiyo? Are you good?" I asked running next to her.

"Yeah I'm fine! Keep up alright?" She chuckled running faster past me.

I chuckled and chased after her as everyone else did. We didn't really tell anyone that we're together because we didn't want to be like that couple. Only our friends and family know. The kids that left the team knew but this whole other group of kids don't. I didn't mind it and neither did Kai. She seemed to be all lovey dovey when she was with Makoto, wanting to go on dates, cheering him on a swim meets, why wasn't she like that with me? 

I blew the whistle and everyone stopped panting heavily bending over their knees. Kaiyo stood there and smiled confidently barely out of breath. She did stay in shape all winter so I can see why she's in a good mood. 

"Alright good now get your swimsuits on and start doing laps. Tomorrow we will be testing your times against each other" I nodded to everyone.

They sighed and we all headed inside. 

"Hey do you know if that girl is dating anyone?" I heard someone mumbled.

"Dude she's the only girl on the swim team I don't think you wanna mess with that" another chuckled.

"Yeah but look at her, she's so hot-" he continued, I stopped him immediately.

"I don't think you boys have time gawking over girls such as Kaiyo. She is your superior and you will treat her with some respect!" I barked angrily.

"Yes sir!" They all shouted raising there hands to their heads.

"Especially when she has a boyfriend like me" I leaned in putting my hands on my hips, showing off my sharp shark teeth making them all go pale and their eyes widened.

"Rin are you scaring off the new bait?" Kaiyo chuckled at me jogging backwards.

"What can I say, I eat fish like them for breakfast" I replied shrugging. 

They all whimpered and scurried into the dressing room. I chuckled and scratched the back of my head. 

"When did you get so protective?" she asked smirking as I wrapped my arm around her.

"Since you decided that keeping our relationship on the downgrade was the best decision" I replied kissing her neck.

She giggled and pushed me off lightly as she wrapped her arm around my waist.

"I thought that's what you wanted Matsuoka?" she said.

I shrugged and looked at the shining sun.

"Why can't be a loving boyfriend too?"

"Didn't think you could be, I thought you were all bark no bite?" she teased me sliding her hands from my back and strutting into the bathroom to change too. 

I blushed and held my hand on the back of my head. Everyone came back out and I allowed Kaiyo to stand on the sidelines because she was already co-captain and she needed to observe so she could make suggestions professionally. She pulled on my team jacket and smirked flicking her hair into a ponytail. My knee caved and cleared my throat paying my attention back towards the swimmers.

"Take a few laps boys, today's practice day, tomorrow's the real test!" I shouted as they swam back and forth a couple times in the pool.

They all seemed pretty slow except a couple of kids. I looked over at Kaiyo and smirked evilly.

"Alright everyone, the co-captain and I are going to show you how its done" I said making everyone climb out. 

She pulled on her goggles and smirked again at me.

"Don't get too distracted my love, you might lose your spot on the team" she teased me.

Everyone cheered and hollered and I glared at them to stop. The whistle went off and we both dived in. Damn it, she was already in front of me. We made our way to the end and that's when I caught up to her. We both hit the other side of the pool and the whistle blew. 

"Wow a tie?!" a boy shouted.

"In that amount of time no way!" another shouted excitedly.

We climbed out and Kaiyo pulled her cap and goggles off shaking her luscious hair everywhere. She licked her lip seductively and smirked at me.

"I told you not to get distracted, you could've beaten me" she said walking over to the team. 

"Wow Kaiyo you're awesome! You and Rin-Senpai really pulled through on that last spurt!" a kid said giving her a high five. 

That's my girl, always the competitive one. 

"I had a good coach" she replied looking back at me.

Everyone snickered and oo'ed. 

"Alright alright, everyone back in the pool!" I shouted getting flustered.

She walked over to me and pulled my goggles closer to her face so she could whisper in my ear. 

"See what happens when I get a flirtatious in public? You get all worked up, baby" she muttered seductively. 

I looked at her confused as she nodded towards my swim pants. I looked down and covered up with a towel blushing incredibly hard making my way towards bench cursing under my breath at her.
