More Pixie Sticks and a Random Leave

I woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of stirring and a small, but bright, light. I turned over and saw Drake sitting up, staring at his phone and scrolling through a text, probably. He was eating the remaining few pixie sticks from the other day. "Drake?" I managed a whisper, half asleep. He looked over, surprised that he woke me up, and gave me the "one moment, please" finger. Setting his phone on his bed, he rolled out, pulled a hoodie over his head, and walked out of our dorm. I think he whispered "Go back to sleep," but I was too tired to pay enough attention.

I woke up again, but this time it wasn't because of Drake moving around or being on his phone. I'm not sure what woke me, but I was wide awake.

I was about to see if Drake had come back, but his bed was just as he left it, and his phone was still sitting there. I pulled myself out of bed, wondering where he could've gone. I grabbed his phone and turned the screen on to check the time: 3:21 a.m.

I shook my head. Maybe he ran out of candy and went to get some from the vending machine or something. I shrugged and started to climb back in bed, when he opened the door quietly, and slipped in, thinking I was still asleep. When he saw me in the dark, he quietly said, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to wake you."

I couldn't see his face, but I nodded and kept quiet, because he sounded exhausted. He climbed back into bed, put his phone under his pillow, tossed around a little bit, then settled in and fell asleep. I looked around the dark room, let out a quiet sigh, and wished I could have seen him smile before I fell asleep like I do every night.

I woke up in the morning, and Drake had been up for at least an hour, like every other morning. Good, he was acting normal. He was blow-drying his hair and combing it over like he does every day, while singing along to whatever song he decides to play in the bathroom. Actually, the music is what usually wakes me up. And it's great too, because I wake up to a new, catchy song every day.

The day flew because all I was thinking about was the new email from my sister that I was going to read during break, because I didn't have time this morning.
