Chapter 8
Daniel
It had been well over three months since I'd met Sky, and I couldn't get my mind off of her. Every spare moment was stolen with her beautiful image. I am sick like a pathetic puppy. Every time I see her beautiful wings extended and her hair whipping about, my stomach drop to the ground. Every time I hear her voice or her laugh when we walk or fly, I feel my face heat and I look at the ground. She seems to notice, but doesn't say anything. But ever since that second day, I knew she was different. She just... was... her. I can never tell her, though. She would hate me, or worse she would never want to see me again. But today we were going to the border to grow the wall - the thorns were dying.
"Hey Danny!" Sky said, dropping outside my window.
"Hey!" I said back, smiling. "Ready?"
"I bet I'll beat you there...!" She challenged.
"I bet you won't!!!" I replied.
I beat her.
We made small talk, growing with our nature powers. But suddenly, we heard a twig crack.
"What was that?!" I said.
"Relax, it was probably a Nilloseon." I nodded, but I still felt uneasy, that wasn't it...
Sky felt it too.
Sky
Then, we heard... it.
the simple bang that sent my world crashing down. I knew that sound, I knew the horror it brought. And I knew the voices that came with it.
"Get. Down." I ordered Daniel, crouching next to him. I could see their bodies, I grew underbrush where they were and where we were, so they couldn't cross. Because of the magic border, they couldn't see or hear us, but I knew what these people were capable of. I heard the crash again, the dirt next to me flying int the air. The bullet lay in the divot it had made.
"RUN!" I screamed, and we flew faster than ever back to Daniel's hut. When we got there, my face was wet with tears of terror.
The humans are back.
