Chapter 15
Sky
*Six Months later*
(A/N Sky would now be 19 and Theus would now be 11)
I flew up from the market, holding my basket. I entered the silent hut - Theus was out playing with Thatcher. I sighed, putting the basket on the table to prepare lunch. I squeezed my eyes shut, remembering the day they were sent off. I hadn't gotten a single letter. Not one. I pulled my ponytail out, sighing again. I heard a familiar someone clear his throat at the door.
"Oh... my... Go-... Tanix!" He grunted as I ran to him, embracing him. "What did you do, young man?!" I said, gesturing to the wrap on his shoulder.
"Well, normally, a soldier's term lasts four years. I was sent home early because I was shot in the shoulder. My term is up because I was wounded." I smiled at him. "These are all our letters that never got sent." He said, pulling out an ENORMOUS box PACKED with envelopes.
My eyes widened. "And Daniel?" Tanix pursed his lips.
"I was instructed to give you this letter." He said, handing my a thin envelope. I tore it open, quickly reading it aloud.
"Dear Miss Sky,
Troop number 38 was assigned to go across enemy lines and sabotage a human camp. They were successful, however, the humans were somehow informed of our attack. They bombed Troop number 38 as they crossed the border. There were no survivors.
We are most sorrowful to inform you Daniel was in Troop number 38 when the attack was launched.
Daniel is dead.
Greatest remorse,
General Hunliquise. (hun-lick-wis)"
I stepped back, leaning on the table. I reread the letter over and over again, hand on my chest. Hot tears stung my eyes and cheeks. I felt as though someone had stabbed me. Tanix came over and took the letter from me, guiding me to the bed.
"h-he... he promised he'd come back..." I said. "He promised..." Tanix laid me down on the soft bed, telling me he'd finish lunch. I lay, staring at the ceiling, not believing the letter was real.

For 2 months, now, I sat on my bed, unmoving. I barely ate, drank or slept. I often visited the abandoned hut that was once Daniel's, hanging flowers and other vines around his rooms to try and brighten it up, but nothing ever helped. I knew he was never coming back. Today, I was bringing in cherry blossom branches to hang from his ceiling. When I was finished, I flew back to the hut, finding a note on the table.
Sky,
I'm out getting food for dinner with Theus. Back in an Hour. There is a pot of tea on the stove for you - drink some, it'll make you feel better.
-Tanix
I ran my fingers through my hair, jumping down to the ground and wadding into the pond by our tree. I bathed, dried off, and flew back into the hut. I poured myself some tea, curling up on the couch to sip my warm mug of the soft drink. But just then, I heard a loud thud at the door.
