We ate in silence after Tanix returned. No one said a word, not even to ask what he found. But if his arms came back empty, it likely wasn't good. Once we finished, I sat on what would be my bed.
"What did you find?" I said weakly.
"Hardly anything. I flew for a long time, until I finally found her. I tried to fly over to her, but something held me back. When I looked down, I was at the border. We cannot cross the border, but she can. She went over the border." Tanix took a deep breath. He was confused as all of us. "I watched the humans take her." His fisted clenched. "They grabbed her and took her. They threw her is some... thing.... with big wheels and huge metal doors... they took her... we lost her..." his body shook and he clutched his chest as he cried. I'd never seen my friend so weak.
"Tanix." He looked at me. "We'll get her back. I promise. We'll find a way." I told him. He nodded, and drifted off to a restless sleep. Theus was quiet. I lay on my back, staring up at the sky.
