Sky
I woke, my head pounding. A likely minor concussion but my think head was Doing pretty good for that blow. I could tell my wing was badly bruised, potentially even broken. It was likely that I wouldn't be able to fly for weeks. But i couldn't figure out where I was.

I watched as the limp body flew too far for me to see. Helpless, I screamed. I pounded the ground, tugged at my hair, and held my chest. I tried my spread my wings, but I cried out, searing pain and heat inflaming and invading my body. I cried uncontrollably hopelessly separated again from my reason for living. I panted and I fell to my knees on the ground.
"Tanix." I croaked weakly out.
"Yes." He whispered, going through his own internal battle. After all, he had just lost her, too.
"I can't fly. Can you see where she went?"
"Would dream of sitting here." He bounded off the ground, quickly disappearing.
"Theus." The small boy looked to me in anger and desperation.
"Come. We must gather what we can for survival." He nodded, wadding out of the pond and following me, leaving all we ever knew of home far, far behind.---
We traveled on foot. We could carry more that way. We gathered branches, food, water, tools, anything we salvage. We spoke little, but the company was comforting in the time of loss. Anger for the humans boiled deep in my blood, as I thought through the different ways we could push them to their side of the border. We stopped at a river, deciding it would be best to stop here. We unloaded everything and laid out what we found. We had little to go on. Theus created a camp as I tried to formulate a meal. I was able to make berry bark soup and toast.
