Tanix

As soon as she left, I face palmed.

I cannot believe I did that!

Urgh, I must've looked  like a fool! Or some creep, or whatever.

... Why ... Why do I care how I looked to her...?

---

"Tanix! Lunch!" Sky called from the kitchen. I ran and grabbed a towel, wrapping up bread, fruit, some mini-sandwhichs sky had made and a canteen of water.

"Hey! Tanix! What're you doing?!"

"I'm just bringing some food to a friend!" I hurried out of the hut because I knew I was about to be pinned, tied up, and interrogated.

"Oh, yeah, 'friend'!" Sky yelled at my open wings.

"Hey, Hey, Sarah, Sarah, Sarah!" I ninja rolled into the Life Tree gracefully and held out the cloth napkin proudly. "I brought lunch." A grin ripped across her cheeks.

"Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you!" She yelled, jumping and coming towards me. She me a short side hug, but her eyes were on the bundle in my hands.

"Go ahead, you must be hungry." I said with a chuckle. She smiled at me and settled over by her bookshelves.

"You're my first visitor, and therefore you are the best!" I laughed.

"Is that so? Well, you are the first person I've ever visited, so that makes you the most amazing!" I did a little bow for her and she gave me a piece of bread.

"Eat up, my knight, you'll need your strength." She gave me a serious look, hiding her smile in our little game. I knelt, my hands on one knee, my head bowed.

"But, my queen, this is all the food left for the next several days. If you leave us, we shall surely all die." She lifted my head with what I hoped was not a false loving look.

"And without you, I shall have no joy. I insist." I smiled and broke character as we dug in.

---

That night, I lay on a large branch higher up on the tree, allowing me to see far across Nix. There was a thump behind me, and the leaves shifted.

"Thank you for visiting me today. Honestly, You have no idea how amazing that was and just..." She sighed loudly. "You're just really great, okay?" I chuckled and turned to her as she plopped down next to me, her deep, all brown wings forming a blanket around herself shyly.

"Well, thank you. And, it was great for me, too. I can't stand being around Sky and Daniel all day. They're so...  Gush-y..." She laughed.

"Yes, well, Daniel has been away for eight months."

"Yeah, yeah..." I dismissed it with my hand.

"Well, anyway, I'm headed inside." I nodded, but stayed silent. "Good night, Tanix..." She said quietly.

And my eyes grew wide as she left a soft kiss on my cheek. I turned to her as she stood to leave.

But I grabbed her wrist and pulled her to me.

I towered over her, looked down at her, looking between her eyes... and then closed the space between us,

and kissed her.
