The next few weeks were all the same. Day after day you would visit him and talk to him about life and yourself (apart from the S.H.I.E.L.D part of course). You revealed more to this man than you have to anyone else, even Steve, who was your best friend. You don't know why you felt so comfortable talking to him. It might have been because you knew his pain, you knew everything he's gone through, and you felt like you owed him your story. It was killing you not telling him you were undercover, but he'd find out eventually.

You saw him open up to you more, and he saw himself becoming human once again. You taught him how to play games like slide, which kinda hurt because of the whole metal hand thing. Surprisingly, he let you braid his hair as well, which made him look like a fairy princess.

All in all, you two got pretty close. Now and then he would go on missions and come back bloody. He never wanted to talk about what happened when you were fixing him up. You could tell the missions were starting to take a toll on him mentally, emotionally and physically.

One day in particular, the fifteenth day, was worse than usual. It was around 2 AM once again. And he had his first nightmare since the one he had when you met him. It was horrible. He screamed as if he was in pain, his muscles contracting and tightening as each scream let out. You ran in and tried to comfort him as before, but this time he didn't calm down, and instead of grabbing your neck he tightened his grasp around your wrists. He yelled "Help" so many times it made you start crying. You couldn't help him, but you wanted to. Even though your wrists started to bruise, you didn't try to get away. Once he let go, you sat up and moved him over on the bed. By now he had stopped yelling, but was crying and murmuring inaudible pleas. You propped him up carefully and sat down behind him, lowering his head into your arms. You stroked his hair and rubbed his temples for what felt like forever, but you enjoyed it. He woke up with a start a bit later, wiping the tears and sweat form his face. He didn't notice you until he lowered his head back down and felt something warm. He turned around. "Y/N..." he mumbled, almost embarrassedly.

You wiped the tears from our face as well "Hey there...I'm sorry." you say gesturing to the spot you were sitting in "I thought it would help, this one was really bad." he looked at you with with a sad smile.

"I could feel you, when I was dreaming." you cocked your head in confusion. "There was this light that appeared, then I woke up. The only other time that's happened was when you were here a couple weeks ago." He drew in a deep breath. "You..you are helping."

You smile and more tears stream down your face. He wipes them this time and cups your cheek with his hand. "Don't cry, Y/N." you smiled through the tears and got up to leave. You felt him grab your wrist gently and turn you around. "Please.....stay...if you can."

You gave him a silent nod and he made room for you on the small bed. You laid next to him this time. He wrapped his arm around you and you rested your head on his chest. "Thank you." he whispered before kissing your head.
