Chapter 8

We all turn around and we hug them back. The military guys let them say good-bye again. After they did they drove off to boot camp. Ashley, Alex and I went inside. We turn the news on. We see the war being broadcast, and it looks very brutal. They're chemical weapons and and nuclear bombs. We see one town in the U.S get blown up by the bomb. We turn it off and we go shopping for the rest of the day. All the days since they left were like this.

I'm 21 now and Sam came home. It's been 6 months since Sam came home. He's been telling us that he was in the same squad as John and Jacob. We are frantically waiting for the war to be over, so they can come home. We watch the news everyday to find out where the war is at.

We here a knock at the door. I go to open it and I see John. I give him a hug and I start to cry. He tells me to keep it down, because he wants to surprise Ashley. I do and I go back into the kitchen and watch. John comes up behind her and he scares her. She thinks its me so she turns around and sees John. She starts to cry and he hugs her.

We all sit down and John tells us that the war is over. They started to send soldiers home about a month ago. John and Jacob were in a position in which they couldn't go home. John got sent home before Jacob and that's why Jacob wasn't home yet. I was getting kinda worried, but I knew that he was coming home. There was another knock on the door. Alex goes to open it and it was the military. John goes over to the door and they tell him what happened. I was really confused. They tell John that Jacob had been killed in battle.
