Chapter 17
I just sit there with his arms wrapped around me. I fall asleep and I dream about us and how happy I am. I wake up and I still see Jacob there and he's smiling at me. He says good-morning and then he gets up and makes me breakfast.
After we get done eating we go for a walk outside. We walk in silence for a while until we get about halfway down the road. He starts talking and he says that the war is almost over. I was very happy to hear this. I couldn't believe after all we went through the war was finally going to be over. We walk and walk for a couple of hours just walking and talking. I always thought to my self it is so good to have Jacob back home. I was going to say something but was interrupted by this noise that scared me. It was the sound of planes.
We look up and we see the sky covered with planes. At first I thought that they were bringing back supplies and men but I saw something being dropped and I immediately knew that the wasn't over. We start to run because the bomb was being dropped right above us. I try and move but I just found myself looking up at the bomb. Then I feel a tug on my arm and I see and hear Jacob yelling at me too run. I knew I had to but my legs wouldn't move. I feel him lifting me up off the ground and he starts running into the woods. He sets me down and he starts to yell at me for not moving, but all I could think about is the day I watched as my house got blow up.
I don't really pay attention to what anything he is saying because I only think about the planes above us. I see another one coming down. I get up immediately and I run as fast as I can and I scream at Jacob behind me too run, but he doesn't move fast enough and the bomb blows up just a few inches away from him. Just like that the person I loved the most is forever gone. I scream so loud that my voice hurts right away. I start running toward him but something holds me back. I turn around and it's a person I haven't see in years. My best friend Philip.
He drags me away as far as he can get me away from where that bomb went off. I have tears streaming down my face and I keep screaming. He finally puts enough distance between me and Jacob that he sits me down and tells me to calm down. I can't calm down though I just saw my boyfriend get blown to bits. I am crying and shaking uncontrollably right now and I can't stop.
Once the sirens are turned off, I didn't even realize they came on, Philip helps me stand up and we walk back to the house. On the way back we see all the damage that the bombs caused. When we get to the driveway we see the house. There was nothing there. There were no walls or anything left standing. I walk up to what used to be the front door and I see the debris all over. I see the book shelves completely gone. There is paper all over the place. I knew that everyone that I loved and knew was in this house.
The only person I knew left was Philip. I looked at him because he lost his friends too and I saw a tear run down his face. I tell him that we will be okay and that we will get through this together. He turns to me and says. "I have always loved you." This takes me by surprise and I just smile. We just stand there looking at each other. He leans in and he kisses me. I felt something that I never ever felt with Jacob and that's when I knew that this was the one I loved.
THE END!
