Chapter 2

I smacked Jack to my side, to protect him from the wild beast. Its claws lashed at my wings, trying to cut me out of the sky. The giant teeth were sharper then razors. I sent it flying through the sky with a flap of my wings. Gold dust found its way though and to my fingertips, and I drew in all of the moister from the clouds. Then I smashed the ugly things' body making it almost fall off balance. The faerie's beak magnified its jaws on my hip. It clung on. Never have I felt so much pain. I could of electrocuted it off, but my energy was to low. Jack was right behind it. He stabbed his staff into its back, sending it rocketing to the ground. But it came back up.

"Fly!!" he screamed to me.

I had no choice but to leave him with the monster. With my arm to my injured hip, I flew with all my might into a portal. It took me strait to the palace. "Help! Help me, hurry!" I yelled. Medics ran down the hallway. And that was the last thing I could remember before I blacked out.

I woke up to a startle. My wings and feathers had sunk into my back and arms. My neck and head had cables attached to them. My body was in an uncomfortable hospital gown. I looked down to my waist and moved the dress up. The wound was deep. But I convinced myself that I was ok, because I could still feel pain and small flesh colored feathers were covering some of the gash.

I looked around, a nurse was sitting by my bed. Her dark blue hair covered her neck and parts of it even looked like electricity... she was pretty and had a heavy accent when she talked.

"You have been out for a long time princess Dustian," she said, "I am nurse Sage."

"Oh" I replied

"You were also calling out a name. Jack, I believe?" Well that's embarrassing. But I guess it could be right.

The first time I met Jack was the first year I had become an angel. I was small. But when you transform you are At the age of 800, which would be 7 in human years. He was about the same age. He taught me everything. How to fly, or sit on clouds, and even how to make my to first snowflake.

Our friendship was strong. He would sneak in the palace every night to tell me stories of his adventures. Only because he didn't have a family to tell them too. Everyone who didn't have a home or family like him, was called lost. He could of had one when he was human though. But when you are reborn, you have a new family. You don't remember your time as a human; or even if you were human.

Jack got caught one night. The guards made him leave, but I still snuck down to see him. I told them I was out to feed Skye. My parents realized that they couldn't keep us apart, so they let him stay. They also found out he could be a use to them since he had powers too. "I want you to keep her safe," my father told him. And he did. He still did.

Then I remembered I had left him with the faerie. "Where is he?!" I screamed, " Is he ok?" Panic rushed though me as the answer was given. I ripped the cables off of me not noticing the small shocks. Then I tore off the covers an ran through the silent hallways in my hospital dress. The room was shut and locked. I banged at the door demanding them to let me in to see him. The doors opened and his lifeless body was laying on a bed. He was rapped in covers. I knelt down beside him, brushing his hair out of his eyes.

"Don't die on me," I whispered in his ear. He touched my arm and said " Don't leave me and I won't" he gave me a smile. But it was a weak one. The doctor told me I should leave when he falls asleep because the healers needed to work on his wounds. "Everything will be ok princess." I keep those words inside my head. Nurse Sage escorted me back to the room. "He was talking about you when you were asleep princess. He admires you. "

I have to admit it. I couldn't live without Jack. It's true, and I think we both know it. He is now more than a friend to me. And if he dies, I die with him. My father and mother arrived in my room. "How are you feeling?" she asked. "Fine," I lied. I was scared. Scared that Jack could parish. Once you die, you turn to a spirit. An invisible body that lives in nature, and helps with the balance. And you can never know love.
