Chapter 17

Hoop checked my body up and down. He gave me a disgusted look with it. "You look disgusting. You are allowed to take your weekly bath." He rolled his eyes and looked at his dad, who just shrugged.

"No," I stood up, "its your turn to take a bath." They both looked at me amused. Like it was some kind of joke. My hands rose up and I sucked all of the water out of the air, and with it, gold dust.

It all formed a giant wave. Like a small title wave. They both looked up, and were about getting ready to run. But I was to quick. the water pounded on top of them. It broke out between me so I was able to escape.

They installed a door the first week I was in here. Big mistake now. I shut it and locked it. Then I ran up the stairs, not daring to look back. I had to find Jack now. I ran up and down the stone cave. Doors were weaved everywhere; like dewdrops on spider webs.

I rushed through every single door. On the last door I heard a noise. "Looking for him." Hoop held Jack by his collar. His head was drooped down and he looked awful. His hair wasn't as light and his skin was paler.

Hoop grinned and kind of shook him. When he looked up I gasped. His eyes were fully black.

He smirked and grinned at me, "miss me love?" Jack asked. He was truly possessed. "Jack?" I whispered and touched his face. He pulled away. "Leave. Me and Hoop have things to do. People to..." I started to cry. "No. NO NO NO! What the hell Hoop!?" he laughed at me bitterly.

"Get out. If you don't leave, I will destroy him sweetheart." He whispered in my ear. I had no choice.

I woke up in bed. My bed. At home. My home. I looked around, and gazed upon a tray of untouched breakfast. All I could remember from the other nights was this:

I flew away from the caves, tears streaming down my scared, unclean face. My body ached in pain. I couldn't fly anymore, so I just fell. Right out of the sky. It actually felt nice.

I felt... Gravity defiant. But only for a millisecond. I have always felt that way. Like gravity never applied to me.

But now that I've experienced these series of events, I just feel broken and held down. I feel lost and betrayed. Gravity has held its purpose.

I hit something hard. It was water. It was such a shock to me. I emerged from the depths only to find myself at the same pond that me and Jack swam in. The Winter Pond.

Except this time, it wasn't winter. It was summer. I got out of the water, just noticing how warm it was. The whole area was defrosted and covered with the greenest grass. Cat tails loomed over the pond, and lilies floated in the glossy water. The pine trees were replaced with lush apple and maple trees. Songbirds practiced their music in a choir. It was picture perfect. Beautiful, but bad news.

I knew that the balanced was knocked off. And that was something more dangerous than Sin and Hoop combined.

Then I remembered about my parents. They might have given up the search. It's been half a year already. I left the pond and headed towards the palace.

It was dark when I got there. I decided to just fly to my bedroom window to see if it was left unlocked. And sure enough it was. My mom probably did it.

She had a canary once. It was a beautiful one in dede. A wonderful songbird was it. But one day, it got out of its cage. My mom was devastated. It was the only thing left of her mother. So she hung the cage on a hook with its door open, and within a week, the bird had found its way back. I think that's what she thought would happen with me.

The lights were on in my bedroom. My mom was asleep in a chair in the entrance to my bedroom from the balcony. The two doors were open all the way, letting the white curtains sway in the evening breeze. She must have been reading a book, because one was sitting on her lap, propped open to the pages she left off of. I flew towards her and landed gracefully on my feet.

My wings shrunk into my spine, while I shook her. She quietly awoke, and when she saw me, a tear rolled down her face. She touched mine and whispered my name. Then she stood up and hug me. I told her everything that had happened, all the while she was starring and caressing my black hair. She told me what had happened when I was gone, and how she loved and missed me.

Then she told me that I needed some alone time. Time to figure out who I am. And she kissed me and left. I started a bath to clean my dirty body. I sat there thinking. Who am I really? and I remembered. This time I really did:

I am Dustian. Soon to be queen of a kingdom of angels. I will only love one person. That person I couldn't save. And I truly regret that. I may not be perfect; I will make mistakes; but I will get through them. I except who I am. I truly do.

I got out of the bath and got dressed. I put my long black hair in a ponytail. Then I looked in the mirror. And for the first time in months, I smiled. I smiled then I laughed, and then I cried.

My eyes had turned blue again. I finally did something right for once.
