Chapter 10
Marlene and S vs. The World
????
I figured Marlene and I could make it to the coast by sundown. After all, it wasn't really that far if we flew. I suggested this to Marlene. Either she figured out we were going to Purple Meadows or her geography is horrible, because there is no coast on the way to Loch Ness.
All she said was "I don't think I have enough magic to get there."
"We can recharge when we get there," I suggested.
"OK," she replied.
My wings started flapping. Marlene took the cue and took off. I quickly caught up to her. Together we flew higher and higher, until we were obscured by the clouds. Marlene struggled to stay afloat. I guess she didn't have much flying experience.
"Use your tail to keep control and your head to steer," I instructed. "You'll use less magic that way."
Marlene glared at me. I was a little surprised by this. I'm more used to girls looking at me like I'm the hottest dragon on the planet.
"What? I was just trying to help!"
"You aren't helping much," Marlene said. She corrected her flight anyways.
By the time we arrived at the coast, Marlene was exhausted. I showed her where the cave was where we could rest. Then I touched the glowing orb nearby, preparing it for charging.
"Hey Marlene! Come over here!" I yelled. Marlene walked over.
"What is it, S?" she asked.
"This is an Orb of Light," I said, gesturing towards the glowing blue ball. "It will help us recharge."
"I thought only Medics were allowed to use those."
"Anyone can use this one." I touched the Orb. It glowed brighter and I felt magic pulsing through me. After a few seconds, I was fully charged with magic.
"You try," I said. Marlene did the same thing I did.
"We're both good now. Let's go to bed. I need my rest." Marlene nodded and we headed to the cave. When we arrived, I tried to impress my pretty friend.
I took some of the extra magic and channeled it into the empty cave. I watched the blue electricity transform into paintings and furniture. The walls were now painted turquoise and there was a comfy couch against the wall. Some of my favorite paintings were now hung on the wall. Two beds were in the middle of the room. This will be quite a nice arrangement, I thought.
"Wow! It looks like a palace!!!" Marlene said.
"That's the entire point," I replied.
"But it's so fancy!"
"I guess so."
Marlene looked around in awe. I flopped down onto the couch and tried to continue the conversation. Marlene had pulled out a book. Not the scrolls I have at home, or the Aquidraki type books, but a book that the humans might have made. I think it was even in their language.
"I'm tired. Let's get to bed," I said. I turned off the lights and climbed into bed. Marlene did the same about an hour later. I couldn't believe this beautiful but strange dragon was lying there on the other end of the room. I simply lay there, plotting my next move. It would surprise her, and it surprised myself when I came up with it. Yes, I thought. I'm going to do it.
