Chapter 2
A Somewhat Average Day On the Job
Sparrow
Contrary to popular belief, I didn't invite Marlene to visit Loch Ness City because I wanted to brag about my life. I just wanted a little excitement in my life. Everybody thinks I'm lucky. I got a job quickly, got paid enough to buy a nice apartment, and then I was elected to the Four Tribes Congress. But honestly, I don't have any time these days to have fun. So I invited Marlene to visit.
It was just a typical day at Compass Enterprises. I was in meetings most of the day, all about boring stuff. The rest of the time, I had to work out the kinks on our search engine. It was exhausting and boring.
I got home really late that day. I was ready to make dinner and then crash, but I decided to check InstaChat first. Nothing there. Then I checked my mailbox, even though nobody communicates via snail mail anymore. I found a letter from Marlene, telling me that she was on her way.
I was so excited!!! I could take a few days off of work, and actually have a life for once. I could show Marlene around, and we could visit all sorts of exciting places around Loch Ness City. I loved Loch Ness City, even if I had very little time to see all of the wonderful things it had to offer.
But that would have to wait two weeks as Marlene made the perilous journey across the Atlantic. She would be lucky if she made it across unscathed. I feel really bad that I didn't warn her, but Marlene's tough. But until Marlene arrived, I would have to keep working hard and crossing my toes for Marlene.
