Chapter 5

Attack of the Blood Seekers

Marlene

Sparrow invited me to tour the school.

"It's not a real school," she explained. "Just a school of bioluminescent fish."

I wasn't sure what she meant by that, but I agreed to go. We got to swim outside outside the bubble. Sparrow swam much faster than I did, so I got a bit lost.

"Sparrow?" I called, but I realized she wouldn't hear me. I looked around frantically, noticing two human divers coming towards me. I swam quickly away, still looking back at the two divers. I could now tell that one was male and one was female and both of them were adults.

I realized that I recognized both divers. But how? I knew very few humans, and the only one that came to mind immediately was Ethan. I looked a bit closer. The divers were pulling out guns. They started to fire. The next thing I remembered was blacking out.

I woke up in a strange building. It was massive, like a labyrinth almost. I was trapped in a small room with a locked door and a tiny window near the ceiling. I peered through the window and saw a hallway. Obsidian was strolling down the hallway. He looked pleased with himself.

"Master, the dragon's awake," Obsidian said.

A few minutes later, something floated down the hallway. It was a black phantom composed of ink and shadow. The phantom seemed to be female, with her long dress and feminine features. She opened the door to my cell.

"Hello, my little friend," she said.

"Um... hi?"

"I'm just going to take a few blood samples. This won't hurt at all."

"Sorry for asking but who are you anyways? I heard Obsidian call you Master."

"Obsidian calls me that because he's my employee. But you can just call me Abyss."

So she was Obsidian's evil master. Interesting that she was capable of controlling Obsidian and Veronica, but that doesn't matter. Abyss was the enemy now. I couldn't take down Obsidian and Veronica without getting rid of Abyss.

Abyss pulled out a needle and started to hold me as she took a blood sample. I tried to jerk away, but Abyss was stronger than she looked. I clawed at her, but my claw simply brushed through Abyss' ghostly body.

Abyss took the needle and watched it pierce my skin. I howled as Abyss extracted my blood, which was pouring out of the little cut.

Once she was finished, Abyss silently left the room. I rubbed the spot where Abyss had taken blood, trying to ease the pain. I realized I had two choices. I could lose all hope and give in to Abyss and her Blood Seekers. Or I could get out of here and take down Abyss. I decided to go with the second choice.
