Shion walked abreast to Jay as they traversed the mall together. The whole time, she avoided his gaze—normally a trivial task, but now she couldn't help but feel so conscious of the boy. The very thought baffled her, confused her. She was troubled.
"Shion?" Jay tried to get her attention, noticing the dip in her brow and how her eyes looked downwards more than usual. She didn't respond to him—rather, she tried not to do so. "Shion?" the boy prodded her shoulder gently.
The Night Witch's reflex action was to pull back her fist to backhand the boy in the face, but she stopped midway. The boy didn't even flinch, and was already fully prepared to allow himself to get hit. Her eyes met his, and she could see his concern written on his face. She promptly turned away again and tried to speed up her walking, but the boy kept up with her.
