Harry's POV
Please tell me you didn't go to James' house," she whispers.
Oh this isn't going to go well.
"Depends if it's gonna piss you off or not I guess," I reply.
Oh yes.
Let's use sarcasm to smooth things over.
Beth let's out a groan and it's not one of those good ones either that I like to hear.
She leans forward and lets her head fall onto my chest.
Well at least she's not on the other side of the room yelling at me.
She slowly bangs her forehead against my chest a few times.
Oh that's not good.
"You did, didn't you," she says, her voice muffled because of my chest.
Yeah.
I think she might be mad at me.
I let out a heavy sigh and wrap my arm around her in the hope I can keep her closer to me for a bit longer.
It might help to calm her down.
Yes, Harold.
Brilliant plan.
"Are you mad at me?" I whisper.
She lets out a long sigh.
"I think I'm too tired to be angry Harry," she lifts her head and looks up at me, "but I'm pretty positive I'm going to have to find somewhere else to stay now."
Well if that's what she's worried about she can just stay with me.
I mean, I've got heaps of room if that's her only issue.
"Yeah, about that..." I start to say.
"Did you not stop to think of that?" she suddenly cuts me off.
What?
I...what?
"You hit him first," I reply because it's true.
"I was justified!" she steps back and gives me a look that screams 'are you kidding me?'
"And I wasn't?" I reply in disbelief, "he's tried it on with both you and Gemma and he put his hands on Nick!"
She shakes her head at me.
"Well...yes...but I'm renting out this house to his mother," she says in an exasperated tone, "you think she's going to somehow be okay with this? That we've both assaulted her son?! Do you think she's going to say 'gee thanks for using my son as a punching bag, have a scone and a cup of tea?' I don't think so Harry!"
I'm starting to think I might need a bloody cup of tea.
She starts to pace around the kitchen, reminding me of a wild animal that's caged.
Where was the quiet woman cuddling into me moments ago?
"So you are angry," I say quietly.
"I should be," she shrugs her shoulders, "but we can't change anything so what's the point?"
Okay.
Maybe I'm in the clear.
"You know," she suddenly says, "Heath treated me well, would do absolutely anything for me."
What the fuck?
Is she saying that I wouldn't?
I would do absolutely anything for her.
