Harry's POV

By the time I leave Beth's bedroom, head down the hall and round the corner to the top of the stairs, Beth has already reached the bottom.

And standing next to Beth is Nick who looks up at me with an impassive expression on his face as he questions my being here with her.

I can't hear what she says but whatever it is she says it with a smile and Nick nods his head slowly, but still looks back at me with a weary gaze.

I can't blame him really.

And at that moment I realise I still have a bit of a way to go to gain his complete trust in me again.

I walk down the stairs as Beth walks over to where Jamie and Chloe are sitting on the couch, and I stop at the bottom putting my hands in my jeans pockets, kind of feeling awkward as to what I should do or where I should stand.

"Harry thought we might like to go out for a picnic today?" Beth asks them, "would you like to go?"

I hope they're up for the idea as it would give me a chance to get to show them around, get to know them more, especially Beth, and, well, just be with them.

Jamie and Chloe are all for it which warms my heart as they're really great kids.

"We're going out with Harry?" Chloe asks.

"Yes, does that sound okay?" Beth says.

"Mum, we're going out with Harry, of course it is," she replies and damn if she doesn't hurt her eyes from how high she rolls them as she passes me to get to the stairs.

The withering look Chloe has on her face disappears the moment she walks past and she flashes me the sweetest smile as she heads upstairs.

I'd be lying if I said she doesn't scare me a little. She's quick-witted, intelligent, caring, doesn't take any crap and is a gorgeous looking girl.

Imagine when she's older...

It's gonna take a strong bloke to be with her and she's not going to settle for just anyone I don't think.

I focus back on Beth and Jamie.

"Harry thought you might like to take your new soccer ball and he'll teach you how to play if you like?" she says to him.

"Really? Harry's going to teach me?" he asks.

He gets up off the couch and walks over to me, looking up at me almost hesitantly, eyes wide.

"Are you...you're going to teach me?" he asks.

Jesus mate, it's just having a kick with a ball.

But then I realise, he doesn't have his father in his life to do that anymore.

"Of course," I smile down at him, "if you'd like me to."

And I'd be honoured to.

It's then he gives me the biggest grin and his face lights up with excitement before it looks like some sort of thought flashes in his mind and he looks serious again.

"Harry," he says, "a picnic means food doesn't it?"

I know where we're heading with this.

"Yes Jamie, it does and I'm happy to stop and pick up whatever you guys want," I say and Jamie is all smiles again.

"Awesome!" he says and follows in Chloe's footsteps and heads upstairs.

I realise I'm still in the same clothes I was yesterday. In my drunken hangover and rush to get here after leaving Beth so abruptly, I haven't been home.
