Maddison woke, startled when her phone on her bedside table started ringing. Hew mind was slow to wake as she sat up in her bed taking in the room around her. She felt confused not remembering going to bed, her room seemed to look the same, sparse with only a few essential furnishings. There was nothing out of the ordinary, so why couldn't she remember going to be?

The phone's consistent ringing snapped her out her dazed mind back into focus. Reaching over she picked up her phone glancing at the clock on her bedside table and seeing that it was ten in the morning. She had overslept and was late for work.

Pushing connect on her phone, she spoke with a dry scratchy voice. 'Hello?'

There was a pause on the other end of the line, then a hesitant voice asked 'Maddison, is that you?'

'Yeah' she cleared her throat really needing a glass of water. 'Sorry' she shifted so she could lean back against the headboard of her bed. 'My alarm didn't go off, so I have slept in.' she said feeling she needed to explain herself.

'That would explain why you're not in your office.' Officer Ryan said with a laugh. 'I'm sorry I woke you.'

'It's fine, you did me a favour I should have woken hours ago. I didn't get in until late.' She said feeling like she needed to explain why she slept in. She wasn't sure if that was the truth though her muddled mind was still trying to process everything. 'Is everything alright, do you need my help again?' She asked thinking about the boy who had been kidnapped and started to worry that it had happened again.

'No, nothing is wrong.' He rushed out. 'I actually just called to make sure that we are still on for our date tonight?'

She relaxed hearing no more kids had been taken, than the rest of his words sunk in. 'Yes,' she said unsure 'unless you need to cancel?' she wouldn't have been surprised if he had changed his mind and wanted to cancel. She was so inexperienced when it came to dating. She was sure she will do something to ruin it all before it even begins.

'No, I'm not calling to cancel, does eight sound like a good time for me to pick you up?'

Her heart skipped a beat, she felt as if a million butterflies started flying in her stomach. She smiled widely happy that he still wanted to go out with her. 'Eight is great.' She said hoping he couldn't hear just how excited she was.

'Great! I need to get back to work so I will see you at eight tonight.'

'Eight tonight.' She repeated still smiling

'Bye Maddison.' Officer Ryan's voice dropped a few octaves, sounding deep and smooth. Like he was purring. It made her toes curl.

'Bye Officer Ryan.'

Disconnecting the call, she crawled out of bed, still smiling. Her smile slipped a little when she noticed she was still wearing the clothes from the day before. Something wasn't right, she never slept in her clothes. Spotting movement in the corner of her eye, she spun around and had to hold back a scream when she saw who was standing there. 'Gabe? What the hell are you doing here?' She held a hand over her racing heart. 'You scared the crap out of me.'

He chuckled to himself shaking his head. He held his hand up in front of him, when she took a step towards him angry that he had scared her. 'Calm down' he said 'it's not my fault you were so consumed with your phone call and didn't notice me here.' His voice sharpened when he said phone call, not matching the cheeky smile on his face.

'That doesn't explain what you are doing here, in my home! Her eyes dropped from his down his body 'And why are you wearing boxer shorts?' Her voice squeaked a little when she spoke.
