Let me just start by saying that I love Twenty One Pilots with every inch of my soul. They are my all time favorite band for a lot of reasons, and if you've never heard their music, I suggest listening to it RIGHT NOW!
But their fan base fucking sucks.
I don't even care if I offend Amy clique members. The entire clique is really rude and snobby.
Especially the ones who have been around for the longest. Like congrats, you've known them since before they got popular. HAVE A GOLD STAR HONEY!
They act like they're superior and the only "real fans". New fans are shooed out of the fan base and are seen as inferior.
I'm a relitively new fan (I started listening around 2014, got into them because of some guy in 2015, stopped listening to them because they brought back memories of that guy, and then got really into them this year). And this year is when I was entering the fanbase.
I was on tumblr talking about how much I loved them, but multiple clique members told me that if I had never been to one of their concerts, I wasn't "a real fan".
Heathens was written about the clique. It's Tyler talking about how the clique attacks new fans and is basically really crazy.
Evidence:
"All my friends are heathens, take it slow. Wait for them to ask you who you know. Please don't make any sudden moves. You don't know the half of the abuse." This is the chorus of the song. Tyler refers to the old members as "friends" and is calling them heathens for being so rude to new fans. He's instructing the new fans to be careful and he's telling the old fans that they "don't know the half of the abuse". They aren't on the new fan's side where abuse is constant.
"Why'd you come you knew you should have stayed. I thought I warned you just to stay away. And now they're outside ready to buzz. It looks like you might be one of us." Tyler is telling the clique to chill the fuck out. The new fans are still valid.
This song is so anti-clique, yet the last lyric is used as bait to join the clique. "It looks like you might be one of us."
The clique can turn anything into propaganda. And it sucks.
The clique can suck my ass.
You aren't accepting of others.
You aren't a family.
You're just super fans who like to feel superior.
