Gibbs POV
After we all disentangled ourselves, Liv poised herself to attack Tony again."You stay." she started, glaring at Tony. "So. Talk to me, I have no clue what we're doing." I smiled.
"Well, you probably saw the body in autopsy." I began. Liv nodded. "Petty Officer Michael McBride. Single gunshot right to the heart. Death was instantaneous."
"So we're trying to figure out who wanted to kill him, like usual." Gibbs nodded. "I'll see if any snipers had grudges against McBride. I'm willing to bet that the shot right to the heart wasn't luck."
"Sounds good. Get an address if you find one." I nodded and grabbed my gear to head out to talk to the family.
"Oi,Tony! I've got family, you get friends and fellow officers. Fuair sé?" Got it? Tony shook his head, smiling.
"English, please?" Liv sighed.
"Oops. Got it?" Tony nodded and grabbed his gear. They got into the elevator together and headed off to hopefully find some answers.
McGee POV
Shortly after Liv and Tony left, I found something that had the potential to wreck some lives-again."Uh, Boss?" I asked, looking up. Gibbs looked over at me, making his you gonna tell me or... face. I swallowed. "The guy who tried to kill Olivia? His close friend is our dead officer's brother. They worked closely for several years. Olivia could be in real danger."
"I'm calling Liv." said Gibbs.
Olivia POV
I heard my phone ring as I pulled onto McBride's family's street. I found my phone quickly and answered."Special Agent Reynolds." I said.
"It's Gibbs. Listen, I don't want you going in that house alone. McBride's brother worked closely with the man who shot you."
"Gibbs, I can hold my own. I'll be fine. I've got what I need."
"Do you keep an earwig in your bag?"
"Of course I do. I'll put it in, okay? it'll be fine. I'm pulling into their driveway now, I'll put my earwig in before I get out of my car." I put it in and spoke. "We good?"
"Yeah. Be careful, alright?"
"Okay. Bye." I said, and hung up.
"Bye? Really?" came Gibbs' voice over the earwig. I sighed and shook my head. I heard laughter on the other end. It was Tony. I sighed again.
"Y'all got to be quiet when I'm in there, you hear?" I demanded. Gibbs said, and I quote, "Duh." I shook my head and got out of the car. I went up to the house and knocked. At my touch, though, the door slowly opened. I pulled out my gun and slowly walked in, filling Gibbs in as I went. "Door opened, I'm going in." I heard Gibbs sigh.
"Careful." he said.
"If you've said it once, you've said it a thousand times."
"Copy that." came Gibbs' voice. I heard creaking upstairs.
"Gibbs, I'm going upstairs. I think somebody's up there." I whispered. I slowly went up the stairs, gun out in front of me. I went into the first room, but it was empty. As I turned to clear the next room, I heard a gun being cocked.
"You'll not be so lucky this time." I heard. I turned and was met by the barrel of a rifle pointed at my head. "Drop the gun." I shook my head.
"You get to keep yours, I get to keep mine." I said. "Don't try to bargain with me. I have a temper hÉireann. Irish temper." I said.
"Goddammit, Reynolds." Gibbs hissed into the earwig. I smiled.
"Frank will come after you again. You won't survive."
"Frank is locked up. For life."
"LIAR!"
"Feds don't lie." I said.
"Oh, yeah. A fed telling me they don't lie to save HER OWN ASS!" he said, his voice rising.
"Listen." I said, frantically searching my brain for his name. Max! "Max, stop this. We can both walk away, but you have to put the gun down. You can walk away, Max. You don't have to be like Frank! Just stop this, please." I begged, lowering my gun.
"Sorry, Olivia." he said. I figured what he was about to do just in time. I brought my forearm up, hitting the barrel of the gun as he pulled the trigger. The gun discharged, but instead of my heart, the bullet hit my shoulder. I yelled as I felt the bullet go clean through my shoulder. I brought my gun back up and fired once, twice. Soon, Max was on the ground, unmoving. I had shot him in the forehead.
"Liv? Liv!"
"I'm fine, Boss. He hit my shoulder instead of my heart. Is one quiet day on my first day back too much to ask?"
"We're on our way with Ducky. Stay put."
"Alright." I went downstairs and sat on the steps of the front porch, holding my shoulder. Soon enough, Gibbs came roaring up in his car, and he, McGee, Tony, and Ziva all piled out, rushing over to me. Gibbs was the first one there.
"How bad?" asked Tony.
"Not horrible, through and through."
"Oh, good. That means that you can get fixed up by Ducky. You don't need a slug pulled out." I nodded. I yelled as Gibbs checked out the exit wound.
"Sorry. I'm going to need you to move your hand so I can look at the entry wound, too." said Gibbs gently. Grudgingly, I moved my bloody hand away and Gibbs looked at it. He stood up and nodded, and I put my hand back on it. Just then, Ducky and Jimmy pulled up, and Gibbs and Tony pulled me to my feet. I walked to the back of the van and looked sheepishly at Ducky.
"There's a body upstairs, first room to the left." I said. Ducky told Jimmy to go get started while he checked me out.
"Sit here, miss Olivia." said Ducky, indicating the back of the van. He dug in his kit for a moment and pulled out a couple of things and worked on my shoulder. He cleaned and stitched up both the entry and exit wounds and bandaged my shoulder. He made a makeshift sling out of some more bandages and told me that I'd need to go see a doctor as soon as I could.
"Oi, Gibbs! An féidir leat tiomáint dom ar an ospidéal?" can you drive me to the hospital? Gibbs nodded and made a grabbing motion in the air that I took to mean toss me the keys! I dug in my pocket with my good arm and found them. I tossed them and walked over to my car. I had to move my gear bag to the floor and then sat down, exhausted. "At least I'm a righty." Gibbs smiled. I had brought my right arm up, which meant that it caused the bullet to hit my left shoulder.
Soon enough we were sitting in the emergency room. Waiting. I was not a high priority because I was already bandaged up, but then I got lucky. My doctor from my last hospital visit came walking through and saw me.
"What are you doing here?" she asked. I pointed to my shoulder.
"Got shot. Again." she shook her head.
"C'mon. I don't have a patient for a couple hours. I'll check you out and send you on your way."
"Thank you so much." I said. My shoulder was starting to hurt a lot, and I was glad to finally get it looked at.
"Did you see a doctor already? Your shoulder looks well cared for."
"Our ME." I said. He told me to see a doctor, though. So I came here."
"All you need is a new bandage and proper sling and you'll be good to go. Props to your ME, though. He appears to be a Jack of all trades." Gibbs and I nodded. I winced as she replaced the bandage and gently placed my arm in a sling. "This WILL stay on for two weeks. Kapeesh?" I nodded. "Then you're good to go. Try not to need me for a while yet, okay?" I smiled and nodded.
"Ready, kid?" Gibbs asked. "Abby's worried sick." I smiled. Of course she was.
