Family is more than just DNA. It's about people who care, and take care of each other. Surround yourself with people you would give your own life for. If you love someone, tell them. It's a cliché, but it's true. Life is too short to not tell someone you love them if you do.
There is a lot of evil in the world. People try to get rid of them, but there is always another monster. However, I've seen bad turn into good plenty of times. You just can't lose faith; even if you think you can't take it anymore.
There are many people who have been emotionally, verbally, and physically abused. They tell themselves that they must shut down. They tell themselves to never show emotion to anybody. That is the only way they know how survive. But you can't expect a person to keep things bottled up inside forever. Be their person to talk to- their shoulder to cry on. But most importantly, have their back. Always have their back.
So in conclusion, surround yourself with people you would give your own life for. Because after all, family is more than just DNA.
