Prologue

We are in a magical land filled with mystic civilization's, ruled by the high elven king, Duncan. This is the story of The Golden Three. They are the gold collored dragon triplets that will become some of the greatest warriors and taticians for their kingdom. This is how their story started...

Emeron (chapter 1)

I fall onto my bed after a three hour study session for the Dragon academy exams that take place tomorrow.

"What are you doing, Emeron?" my sister Luna asks after ducking under the door way instead of just shrinking herself to the size of the doorway. How can she be that quiet on her four feet with such curved claws, I wonder.

"Hey Luna, nothing much just thinking." I reply staring at the ceiling from laying in my bed.

"Are you worried about the dragon exam tomorrow?"

"No, not really."

"Ruben could really use some help studying."

"Hey, I said I wasn't worried, I didn't say anything about being able to tutor anybody."

"Oh," she sounded disappointed.

"Alright," I say in exasperation, "let me see what I can do."

"Thank you, thank you, thank you," is all she says as she wraps me up in a big golden dragon wing hug.

We are golden dragon triplets. We were laid in silver shells. There is a saying in the valley that mother told us before we left for the academy. A silver shell upon the land means a hero is born once more, for a Golden Dragon will appear, to fight evil forever more.

Meaning we were special, me, with my emerald green solar eclipse on my forehead, and the power to shoot lightning. My sister Luna with her weird and cool power to breathe ice instead of fire, with a sapphire blue, moon crescent on her forehead. Finally our brother Ruben, who has a ruby red sun on his forehead, and he breathes fire like most dragons, but he is special in that he can breathe fire on the same day he hatched and in massive amounts. Most dragons need 3 months to gain and use their fire. However, our symbols only appear in moments of distress.

We have been in training for 6 months and tomorrow is our big exam to earn our ranks and get to go home to our parents, Coren and Kaleen, dad and mom.

I walk through the mountain tunnel system till I get to Rubens private room. We are the only students at the moment so we had the best pick of rooms. Unfortunately they aren't anywhere near each other. I didn't care though because I had been lying in front of my desk for three hours studying before Luna came into my room and I really needed to stretch my legs.

"Hey Ruben, Luna says you're freaking out about the exam."

"That's Luna alright, always caring and never leaving things alone."

"Would we love her another way?" I ask.

"No, suppose not. Alright I'm having trouble with the close combat. When they get too close, my mind just freezes up. I forget where my legs and wings are. I panic because I have trouble figuring out where they are going to come from. It's easier on the ground because then I don't have to worry about them flying up into my underbelly. I just don't know what to do."

"Well, I could help you with that. We can head outside and you can watch and listen to what I do when I try to attack you."

"You really think that could work?"

"Yes, you can practice watching me out of the corner of your eye so you don't have to be swinging your head all around and losing your focus. Then you can listen to the sound the air make when a dragon tries to dive bomb you from above. Watching for dragons below you really shouldn't have to worry about. They would have to be really good fliers to charge you from below before having time for you to see them and dodge."

"Wow, that really puts it into perspective, thanks Emeron. Can we head outside now?"

"Sure."

We go through the maze of tunnels and we are met with a cool breeze at the mouth of the school tunnel system. We are diving out of the entrance into the night air. The night was cool, crystal clear, and pitch black except for the full moon which is shining brightly and the stars twinkling high in the sky.

"Wow, how am I going to see you out here?"

"Ruben, right now we are working on your senses. So if you can't rely on your sense of sight, then use your sense of hearing."

"You're right Emeron, once again you give me some sense."

"Okay, I will dive bomb near you, and I want you to close your eyes and listen to the sounds I make when I attack. Try to avoid me, but even if you don't move I won't run into you."

"Gotcha Emeron, I'll hover right here until you attack."

I rise thirty feet, feeling the wind under my wings and the full moon painting everything a silvery gray. I circle thrice and dive, my eyes watering from the dive slipstream and my incredible acceleration. I aim to just brush the tip of my wing with the tip of his wing. Just enough to leave him slightly jolted.

Then in mid dive I hear 'sneak attack!!!' and then Luna slams into me at full force. We slam into Ruben and crash to the ground in one big morning heap.

"Luna! What were you thinking?" Ruben asks.

"You need to expect surprises in a fight. So I provided the surprise, but I didn't mean to plow us all into the ground"

"Luna, next time please give us more warning?" I ask.

"Alright, alright I'll give a better warning next time."

"Well Ruben, now you can practice keeping track of several enemies at once. The sun is coming out so you can see us better but don't forget to listen too."

We practice for two hours, Luna would dive from above while I would climb from below and we would alternate circling Ruben. We were in the middle of our first break in two hours when the exam bell started ringing.
