I walk past Luna gaping at dads fight/flight suit. Since I didn't use Emeron's fancy spell to move my things, my room is completely barren. I set down my magic duffel and returned to the main hall. The smells of mom's lamb stew is wafting throughout the main hall.
"Smells great mom." I say while indicating to the stew.
We gather around the table to enjoy our stew. Just as we are settling in we here a frantic pounding at our main entrance. We all get up to check the door since we were all curious.
There in the main entrance way is a phoenix messenger. He gives dad a blank envelope and flies off without a word. We close the door and return to the table. After the delicious lamb and potato stew dad opens the letter.
He speed reads through the letter, a skill he picked up by being the kings adviser and having to fully read at least 20 reports a day, each a minimum of 15 pages, and as he reads the letter his jaw slowly drops and his eyes grow huge. Finally he starts to look up and stares at all of us. He regains his composure and gives us another look.
"Anything else interesting happen at school? Something that would merit a fine for 300,000 aurora's? Or a King's summons perhaps?"
"Well," Emeron began, "I kind of summoned lightning to strike my target on the school firing range and the entire range went alight like a bundle of dry tinder."
"YOU SET THE ONLY PART OF THE SCHOOL THAT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE COMPLETELY FIREPROOF ON FIRE!" Dad screeched.
"Yeah, I kinda thought you would be proud of me." Emeron replied.
"I'm proud. I'm just left wondering how you summoned the lightning." Coren said, in a puzzled tone.
"I just got a little angry at the target and it just got hit by a bolt from the clouds. I thought it was pure willpower. Besides Luna put it out really quickly afterwards with her test. Then Ruben melted the ice from Luna's test with his test. Following that deed, he promptly set the entire range alight again to assure his passing grade."
"To be honest. I was just really worried that I wouldn't pass. The worry somehow relight the fire to epic proportions."
"No." Dad said getting his own emotions in check before he called up a hurricane. "Its a rare and powerful technique to boost our powers with our emotions that runs in our family. You all should have it at your disposal. Luna, were you calm during your test?"
"Completely. I had been practicing a lot in my room at the academy."
"That would explain why the entice academy didn't freeze solid. The gift always causes more trouble when it's used by an untrained dragon. It's a good thing you practiced."
"Are you going to teach us how to use it?" Emeron asks.
"In due time, but first let's get this fine and meeting handled." Dad replied.
We finish the stew and divide the general cave maintenance tasks among the five of us. Luna and I are to unpack and settle in while dad fixes some loose shelf's. Emeron is to clean the fight/flight suits that we all wear. We do wear other clothes on special occasion's but the fight/flight suits are comfortable, long lasting, and suit our needs perfectly. Mom cleans the dishes and straightens up the kitchen while working on a market list.
Luna and I finish settling in and setting our processions up around our rooms. We head back to the main hall to find Emeron done cleaning the suits. We head into the kitchen to find mom finished with the market list.
"We could get the supplies if you want, mom?" Emeron offers.
"That's a nice offer but shouldn't you ask them your siblings if they want to go to market first before volunteering them?"
"Oh, right. Do you two want to come shopping with me?"
"I'm game. Plenty of cool stuff at market." I say.
"Me too. I want to catch up on the latest news and fashions." Luna agrees.
Authors note: okay I only had the one more finalized chapter so here it is. Prereading group meets next Monday so hopefully I will have a few more finalized chapters by the end of that and then I can start writing new material.
