James (and the rest of the Marauders; Sirius and Peter, of course) had figured out that Remus John Lupin was a werewolf during their third year. They had forgotten about it during their fourth year. And James figured it out again – with evidence, during his fifth year. He didn't even know how the Marauders had forgotten about it, but they just did. Somehow. He was still confused about it.
He had even pulled out a hologram of dates Remus disappeared. The numbers were surrounded by a blue, shimmery circle and a full moon on top. "Remus disappears every full moon," said James, pointing to the dates he had conjured. "He came up with different excuses that we don't believe. He is a werewolf." he said, giving them short explanation to the two Marauders. But it appeared that Sirius and Peter did not understand one word James was saying. They were nodding hesitantly, not saying anything as they listened to James ramble on and on. None of them appeared to be actually listening. Peter was staring into the nothingness, and Sirius was flipping through a Quidditch magazine. James stared at them when he finished his explanation.
"So?" asked James, grinning. "Do you get it now?" he asked both of them, hoping that they caught what he was talking about.
Sirius and Peter shook their heads. James scowled at them, his wand tapping roughly on the full moon holograms. He felt the sudden urge to flip a table and shove it to the two. James restrained himself from doing so, breathing heavily as he did so. He sighed and sat down on his scarlet bed, glaring at the two. "Remus is a werewolf." said James shortly, an eyebrow raised. They should've concentrated before.
"And?" asked Peter, appearing to be losing his concentration slowly. James sighed.
"We need to help him somehow," said James, drumming his fingers on the bedside table impatiently. "He's our friend. He's a Marauder," said James, putting emphasis on the word Marauder. Remus was indeed their fellow marauder.
He sat there, waiting for any of the two to answer. None of them did. James sighed. The two could be very daft at times. He stopped drumming his fingers onto the table, placing his hands on his lap. "We could accompany him during full moons," he explained. He had done research on the multiple ways they could help Remus and being Animagi was the craziest idea he found. And James loved crazy.
James had, in matter of fact, thought about it and followed Remus for half a year. He had took notes and spent more time in the library more than he should've, which had resulted in him almost being banned from the library, as one of the days he was there, he stayed there for such a long time that it had almost passed curfew. Madam Pince was not happy about that at all. Not one bit. He placed down him wand on the bed as he sat up, feeling the urge to punch himself in the face. James faced the two Marauders and began to explain the process of being an Animagus, and how he figured out that Remus was a werewolf.
"You stalked Remus for an entire semester?" asked Sirius with a raised eyebrow.
James ignored him and continued explaining. Peter had finally understood it at last, which James was very thankful about. But Sirius appeared to be not understanding the problem at all, much to his own surprise. "Do you understand it now?" asked James cheerfully, grinning.
"No, not really," said Sirius in reply, closing the Quidditch magazine. His steely grey eyes met James's hazel ones. James felt the urge to use Sirius as his punching bag, even though he was his 'best mate', some would say. James sighed as he ignored Sirius completely, jumping down from his bed and unlocking his trunk quickly.
James shrugged Sirius off as he pulled out a book from his trunk. It was a book he found at Flourish and Blotts during the summer. It was about being Animagi without having the ability to be one.
"Now let's start before I kick every single one of you."
