I rub my eyes as I roll out of bed, my duvet falling to the floor, tangled from my feet. The sun is stinging my eyes, as I scrunch up my forehead- looking out the window.
"Today." I say. Today. As I wake, I see my sister cooking up my breakfast.
"Mornin' Anara." She welcomes through a slight yawn.
"Hey." I give Nora an anxious smile.
"You ready for today lil' sis?" She asks.
"As ready as I'll ever be, I suppose." I sigh.
"That's not the spirit! You're growing up- moving on."
"Moving on? It's not like I'm planning my own funeral. You can visit me, you know. Whenever."
I turn my head to the clock, leaning crooked against the wall. '10:31' I read. Almost noon.
"I'll start saving." She smiles, and turns her head back to the pan, sending steam brewing up into my nose.
"I'm gonna go get my things, bring them out to the car." I say, stumbling up the stairs. As I reach my half empty bedroom, I notice a note, just a small little scribble, taped to a hinge of my door.
"Have fun in London Anara. We'll all miss you back at home. Sadie'll take good care of you. Be safe, and I'll see you soon.~Nova" I take one last look at the note, and crumple it into my palm, holding it tightly. This is crazy. I can't imagine life without my sister. She's been there forever, from my first breath to my first kiss, and now I'm leaving. Leaving her behind, without any warning. Sadie will be the only one with me, the only one to look after me. I won't have any guidance anymore, this is all in my hands. I'm starting my new life. The new me.
I click on my iPhone, and I got a text. From Sadie:
"cant wait to see you! its been forever... when will you be here? xx"
From Anara:
"omw(: x" I toss my phone in my purse afterwords.
"It might help if I look presentable..." I grasp my thick blonde hair, and lie it on one side of my neck. Looking down on my desk chair, I see everything I had picked out the night before: My cream wrinkle crop top, tan high rise shorts, and my chocolate brown Vans, which I threw on quickly, wasting no time at all. I have absolutely no time to waste. After throwing my hair up in a messy bun, I apply some mascara and eyeliner, going for a more comfortable and natural look. "Done," I mumble, as I grab the two suitcases containing the very last remaining possessions of mine.
"You ready to eat?" Nova calls to me as I'm half way to the kitchen.
"Yep." I reply, popping the P.
"Have a seat, it'll be done in a minute." She announces, leaving me starving.
"Kay." I reply, as I plop down onto one of the lightwood dining room chairs.
My sister was always a good cook, well, she was always a good everything. Facing the fact that she's nine years older than me, things are much easier with her around. Ever since my parents have died in a house fire three years back... She's been the only motherly figure in my life. They died the day after Nova's wedding. The best time of her life had become the worst time of her life. And that's how it was all started. I moved in with Nova and her husband, Brendon, who I have grown to love. He's like a brother to me- honestly. He's an amazing person, and Nova couldn't have done better. I just wish Brendon could have been here to say goodbye to me, buisiness trips are the worst.
"Here ya' go." Nova smiles as she places a large plate in front of me. It was filled with so much food- I appreciate the thought, but...
"Oh my gosh Nova! I can't eat all this!" I squeal.
"Sheesh chica! I just figured you wouldn't fancy the airplane junk they'd serve you!" She giggles.
"True dat." I roll my eyes in disgust, and dig in, feasting myself with all I can stomach.
"Check the time for me, please?" I ask, not able to see the clock.
"Its 11:52, we better get going soon. What time does your plane leave anyway?" Nova questions.
"Departure is around 12:45. Yeah, I don't want to be late." I rub the back of my neck.
"I'll go pack up your suitcases, double check you have everything you need." She demands.
"Aye aye captain." I stifle, giving her a two finger salute.
Heading into my old bedroom, I still see my MacBook sitting on my windowsill.
Oh God, I don't have room for it. Crap. Dumping out my dufflebag, I decide to repack everything that was in there. I have to have room for my laptop. Have to.
Folding up a throw blanket, some sweatpants, my baby blanket, and a few scrapbooks made by my parents before they passed away, I have literally two centimeters left for my MacBook.
Standing up, and stetches my stiff legs from sitting down too long, I grab my laptop, and try my hardest to shove it in. It literally took me at least ten minutes to get it packed.
"Oh the things I will do for Tumblr..." I say to myself, as I take one last look at my room.
"Dang- I'll miss it here." I take a deep breath, and shut the door behind me.
Hurrying down the stairs, I see Nova talking on her house phone, sounding sad but also a bit cheery.
"Oh, she's right here!" She says happily.
I give her a 'wtf-is-happening' look, and she covers the speaker with her left hand.
"Brendon's on the phone!" Nova hollers to me.
I drop my dufflebag, and I snatch the phone out of her hand.
"Bren!" I laugh.
"I'm so sorry I couldn't be there when you left. I'll miss you dearly." He says.
"I-I'll miss you too." I mumble.
"Come back and visit soon!" Brendon orders.
"Oh I will, by all means."
"You better." He giggles, and I hand the phone back to Nova.
"Ready to go Adara?" She asks.
"I guess so..." I sigh, and walk out of the front door.
