Ashley sat on the counter with a sour expression on her face. Nael was too busy serving customers to notice Ash's sour mood but by the time he realized, Ashley was already on the edge of crying, which made him panic and rush to her.
"Ash? Are you okay? Did you fall again? I-"
"I'm fine, Nael." Her voice was flat and dismissive. She didn't want to talk about it.
"It's four, aren't you suppose to get ready for prom?"
Ashley frowned, he was right. She should've gotten ready by now if she didn't want to be late, but what was the point now? She didn't have anyone to take her there. Her friends were probably too busy to accompany her since they were all going with their partners, and she didn't want to be a burden.
"No, I'm not going."
"What? Why?" Nael ask, "I thought you were going with ken-"
"Please don't say his name," Ashley cut him, "He has a girlfriend, besides I don't feel like going anymore."
"But it's prom!" Nael protest.
"So?"
"So you have to go, with Kenneth!"
"I'm not going." She repeated.
"You must-"
"You know what?" She abruptly interrupted him as she got up from her seat, "I'm just gonna go back inside and prepare for the karaoke night, and you just shut up, made the damn coffee and don't bother me okay?"
"But---"
"Great! Now shut up!"

Kenneth was excited.
He didn't even remember when was the last time he felt this excited. Today was Friday, which meant it was prom, which meant that he gets to see Ashley wearing a dress. And he was pretty confident that it was a white dress.
For the past five days he was been too busy helping his old friend -George, to give his girlfriend -Maria, an anniversary surprise.
He told Geroge that Maria was too smart to be true and she knew if George was hiding something. So when George was the one who thought of the plan, and all of his surprises, which Kenneth thought involved sex in it, Kenneth was the one who had been going back and forth to reserve the places, buying all the necessary stuff and whatnot.
Kenneth was okay with that, George had been his friend for as long as he could remember, but the problem was, it made him that busy because he couldn't call, or even send a single text. His best friend could be such a perfectionist sometimes.
But the last day way the worst, one of the reasons he canceled his flight was to check up on Kristy, his Ex. But since George asked him a huge favor, he couldn't visit her like he planned to. So when he did, he forgot his phone and the note that George gave him because he was too caught up to arrange all the stuff George wanted him to do. Which also, gave Kristen the wrong idea that he wanted to surprise her and ask her to get back together. He believed she said something that goes, "It was so sweet of you to plan all of this. But you don't have to try so hard to win me back, I already want you to come back to me. I'm all yours," and some other stuff.
Kenneth didn't even understand all the stuff she was saying until she showed him the note when he came back to take his phone.
He was confused, of course. But he made it clear that day, that all of the lists on the one, were not for her. And he didn't want to get back with her or whatsoever, she was so demanding and always, always made him feel like he was the bad guy when she was the one who's making a scene in the first place.
"You got it all wrong, that list wasn't even mine. It's George's. He was asking me to help him. And for the record, I don't want to get back together with you. I came here just because I still see you as a friend and friend only. I'm sorry if you took it the wrong way." He said, before leaving Kristen dumb-founded in her hospital bed, it was harsh, but it was the truth.
When Kenneth's flight was landed safely at the airport, the first thing he wanted to do was to go to the Car's café and gave Ashley a big hug and give her the cat tux he bought for Poopé.
But the moment his eyes landed on his bed, the thought of seeing Ashley was long gone and all he wanted to do sleep.
Little did he know it was the wrong thing to do.
