Matt

"Good morning," I smiled as my two kids walked down the stairs. "How'd you sleep." "Good thanks dad," Lucas replied. "That's good. I made your favorite for breakfast," I smiled putting plates of bacon and eggs down in front of them. "Thanks! Where's mum?" "She's still asleep. She didn't sleep very well last night." "Okay. What are we doing today?" "I though we could go out and buy mum some things for her birthday. Maybe we could go to the park?" "Sounds fun!" Ellie smiled. "That's good. Well I think you should finish up breakfast and then brush your teeth and get changed and we will go." I sat down beside Lucas and had a bite of my food before being interrupted. "Matt!" I heard Gabby groan from upstairs. I stood up off my chair and walked to the bottom of the stairs. "Gab what's wrong?" "Come here." I walked up the stairs and into the bedroom to see Gabby sitting on the ensuite floor, head over the toilet. "Oh Gabs," I mumbled walking in and gently rubbing her back, "have you been sick?" "No, but I feel like it. Can you get me some ginger beer from the fridge?" "Yeah. Sure," I whispered kissing the top of her head. I jogged back down the stairs and filled a glass before walking back up. By the time I reached the bedroom she was already sick and groaning. "It's alright, you're alright," I whispered rubbing her back up and down gently. When she finally caught a break she managed a few sips of the ginger to try and calm her stomach but it didn't do much as she continued to throw up. I managed to get her back into bed and under the blanket, her skin felt clammy and she looked exhausted. Already this seemed so similar to the hard time she had while pregnant with Lucas. "Baby I'm going to call Shay and tell her you're sick and can't go out for lunch okay? She'll understand." Gabby nodded and I kissed her head. "Call me if you need anything, I'm just downstairs with the kids. Try go back to sleep."

"Dad is mum okay?" Lucas asked as I walked back down the stairs. "Yeah she's just feeling sick buddy. So we might stay here this morning so I can be here to help mum if she needs. We can go out if she feels better this afternoon. Is that okay?" He nodded in understanding as I text Shay. "So I was thinking because we are home, maybe we can set up the trampoline for you Lucas and then maybe paint the cubby for you miss Elouise. What do you think?" "And swim?" Ellie smiled. "Of course we can. But first we will do the jobs. Lucas go out some old clothes on and we can go find some of your clothes you can wear to paint Ellie."

15 minutes later we were out in the yard and I opened the can of paint for Ellie and tipped some into a tray. "If you want to make it rainbow, daddy will mark which boards to paint in red okay? And then we can let that dry and do another colour okay?" She nodded with a smile and I marked which boards she should paint red. "You paint while daddy helps Lucas build the trampoline."

It didn't take us long to assemble the trampoline and I sent Lucas back inside. "Go make sure mums asleep for me okay? And then you can put on your swim suit. Ellie come on let's go get sunscreen and bathers."
As the kids got changed a peaked back into the bedroom and Gabby was just starting to wake up and I smiled. "Good morning beautiful. Feeling better?" "A little, thanks. What are you and the kids doing?" "About to go for a swim, you should have something to eat." "I'm not really hungry- but I promise I'll eat something soon." "You're lucky I trust you," I smirked. "Do you want to come sit in the shade for a Br by the pool? Fresh air might make you feel better." She smiled at me, "sounds good."
