Fighting For Exodus

It's been five years, three months and sixteen days since it happened. The judgment day people called it, me, I think it's a test, someone up there is testing the human race to see if we can survive and if it is a test, we have most certainly failed.

It all started five years ago on Christmas day when a tsunami hit Japan. This may seem normal, most people thought it was, but they were wrong. It was a trigger. First the tidal waves came, knocking out most of the coast of south America and Canada ( the USA remained untouched). Then came the earthquakes, ripping apart countries, where France and Germany once stood is now just open water. Volcanoes killed millions and destroyed cities. No one, even today can see any pattern, it completely undermines all the laws about plate boundaries. All anyone could find out was that the United States of America, to this day remains untouched by the disasters.

With the disaster came the sickness, famine and drought spread across the world, governments fell apart. Politics had little meaning outside of Eden, (America was renamed Eden on new year's day three years ago). Outside chaos rules and people fight for their survival.

Shortly after the events of Christmas day, people from all over the world, all with money of course came to Eden. After that the boarder went up. The boarder is a sort of shield that runs the perimeter of Eden. They say it's to keep the sickness out but I know it's to keep us in..

I was visiting some family who live near my pen friends, Becka and Adam Hope, in Eden when the disasters hit so I stayed with them. Staying is one of my biggest regrets, I haven't seen or heard from any of my family in five years. Every day it kills me, not knowing if they are dead or alive, starving or killing for survival, I do have some hope small thought it may be. Ireland, which is where I'm from was one of the least affected by the disasters so hopefully they will have been smart and gone underground, hopefully when this is all over I can go home supposing there is a home for me to go back too.

The president at around the time was killed because he wanted to help those who were in need, he had suggested taking down the border that surrounded Eden, but the people didn't like the idea of sickness coming into their perfect Eden. The Council took his place.

The Council was made up of twelve of the most powerful people in the world; Mrs and Mrs Hope they are in charge of foreign affairs a.k.a making sure that nothing gets in or out of Eden, Mr and Mrs Prosperous they are in charge of Eden's money and jobs, Mr and Mrs Strength are in charge of the army the FTK, the normal police the FAC and the boarder. Mr and Mrs Unity are in charge of the archives meaning the confiscated all books they thought to be tainted (whatever that means), Mr and Mrs Patriotic, they make sure that everyone is content and happy with the way Eden is, well that is there official job but really they are there to stop people like me causing trouble. Finally, the worst of the lot Mr Adam Eden and Mrs Eve Eden, they run the council so basically that means, what they want they get. The run the world, for most people Eden is the world. They put something in the food here you see, it makes people forget. They do this so that people are content to stay because they just don't know that there is a whole other world out there.

My name is Valery Freeman and I work for an organisation called Exodus. We are fighting a war, a secret was but a war none the less. My group is fighting for our freedom and the freedom of those in Eden and around the world.

Our problem is the Council, they control all of Eden meaning that they have the rest of the world under their thumb as well. We have two informants on the council, Able and Mary Hope. Unfortunately, the chairman Adam Eden doesn't trust anybody.

Exodus has people all over the world giving us information since we don't hear anything where we are based in Eden. They also give us food I mean we could hardly eat the food here, it's been tampered with.

That's one of the reasons we got the Hopes on the council so we could fly things in and out without catching the Council's attention.

I work in a coffee shop near the Knowledge Dome, that's where the Council work. But the shop is just a cover . I am the eyes and ears, most of our customers work for the Serpent, otherwise known as the Council. Plus, who's going to suspect a kid. Even if I don't exactly fit in. With my red hair and Irish accent I'm like a walking billboard for Ireland, in Eden there is this idea about the natives as they are called(people who are born and raised in Eden), its nothing big but you are treated differently if people know that you are an outsider. That's the main problem with me; I am so obviously not from Eden that most tend to remember me.

There I was, five O'clock rush hour running around like a madman, making coffee, tea, cappuccino and everything else that ends with a vowel. When Cain, a researcher for Exodus comes rushing in. Now as a rule we keep contact between members at a minimum, so I knew that this was serious.

"Valery," Cain whispered "we have a problem."

"What kind of problem exactly?" My voice sounded abnormally high even to me.

He looked around before answering a low, panicky voice, "a code red."

I dropped the cup I was holding and ran out of the shop getting weird stares as I went.
