A few days later I was in the café where I worked, gathering information. When a man I recognised as working for the Serpent walked in and sat at the table in the corner. I paid no attention to the man at first, but an hour passed and every time a waitress came over he just waved her away without ordering anything. He just sat there reading his book never looking up.
I began to study him, he looked young, and he couldn't be more than twenty two. He had longish brown hair and dull blue eyes. I suppose he was handsome in a quiet way. I looked at him for a while longer studying his face but the morning rush came in and I forgot all about the strange man in the corner.
It came to closing time, today had been unusually busy and I was exhausted.
"Hey, Valery" I looked over at John, my boss
"What is it?"
"Tell that guy in the corner to get the hell out would you"
I rolled my eyes, John had never been good with human interaction, he would always leave that to me or one of the other waitresses. "Sure."
I weaved in and out of the table to reach the man.
"Um, excuse me, sir?" He looked up at me, "I'm sorry but its closing time, I am going to have to ask you to leave."
He looked surprised at the time "Oh, I must have lost track of time, I was just thinking about stargazing." He looked at me with a sly smile. I nearly gasped out loud, it had been so long since the last time...
I was pulled from my thought when the man coughed, looking at me for a reply. I quickly plastered a smile on my face and replied with the agreed words "I hear the stars are always brighter in the east."
Just as quickly he was on his feet and walking toward the door, "well, I shall certainly look." Just before he reached the exit he turned to be and said "but I doubt they will shine on Calvary tonight." Without another word he quickly left the cafe
I went back to John, collected my things and left walking back to the small apartment I shared with Maia overlooking the docks. I walked through the apartment depositing my keys in the bowl as I went. I could smell something great coming from the kitchen.
"Something smells good." I said walking into our small kitchen and seeing Maia standing at the cooker." Maia was an amazing cook. She turned around.
"Yeah, but its spicy. Sorry." She added when she saw my face at the mention of the word spice. "I thought you were out with Matt." Maia gave me a knowing look when I blushed.
I frowned, why would she think that? "No, but I am heading out later so don't wait up."
I walked back into my room and collapsed onto my bed letting the stress of the past few days wash over me. Between working at the café, missions for Exodus, avoiding Adam and trying to keep all the secrets from Becka. On top of all that September was coming up quickly and I would be going to UOC, the University of Calvary.
My thoughts drifted back to the man this morning, I didn't know his name but I am sure I would know by the end of the night, "I was just thinking about stargazing." He had said, of course I knew what that meant.
I sighed and got changed, my bed calling me to sleep but I had things to do. I had a feeling I wouldn't be getting the sleep I so needed anything soon. I walked towards the door and quietly slipped out before Maia could quiz me on where I was going.
There is one thing I love about Calvary is that at night the sky lights up and I don't mean with street lamps, when the sun goes down the heavens light up with stars. Sometimes I would go out to the docks where there were less street lamps and I would just sit and think.
