Running from the manor I got the first train back in Calvary, while tell Jacob to organise a meeting tonight.
It was so obvious now that I thought about it.The Genesis File would be exactly where I expect it to be. It was in the tomb from the myth, and if people in Egypt were looking for treasure but maybe not for gold, maybe for something altogether more valuable, like a Genesis File perhaps.
Getting off the train I headed straight for the entrance to the Undercity, but it was just my luck that the FACs had a check point at the entrance to the train station.
"Line up people we want to get home just as much as you do." called a portly man wearing the red and black FAC officer uniform. There was a loud groan from the people behind me. This was a regular occurrence in Eden, the FACs would set up check point at random intervals throughout all the major cities.
The minutes ticked by and finally I reached the front of the line and I came face to face with officer Hamilton, he had almost arrested me before but I had managed to wriggle my way out of it.
Richard Hamilton was a young man he couldn't be any more than nineteen or twenty and was green as grass. He was just out of training and had caught me out after a curfew that had been set and in a restricted part of the city, namely the archives in the Knowledge Dome.
I had said I worked in the archives but the next morning it was broadcasted on the T.V that the archives had been broken into by a young caucasian female and many priceless books had been stolen.
In truth I had only stolen two things and one was a Eve Eden's diary, I suppose thats how I got the nickname the anti-Eve.
I was hoping that he didn't recognise me but judging by the look on his face he did. "You, I remember you."
"No, you don't."
"Yeah I do," his light green eyes looked at me with suspicion, "You were in the Knowledge Dome the night when some girl broke into the archives."
Whispers broke out from the people behind me in the line as people heard the conversation.
"You mean she..."
"Does she work for the Council?"
"Do you think she's a spy?"
It was scary how close to the truth those people were. "Wait a minute," it sounded as if officer Hamilton had finally caught on. "You were in the Knowledge Dome the night of the break in.' He reached for his radio and I did the only thing I could.
I grabbed his wrist and whispered "You don't know who I am and I certainly wasn't in the Knowledge Dome that night." I tried to tap into the power the files had given me and it seemed to work. He moved away from his radio and let me passed.
"Yes so sorry about that miss." His voice was almost lost in the wind as I was already half way down Believers Avenue.
Believers Avenue was the social hub of Calvary, all the night clubs were there (the Red Sea had been there). The Cafe, the coffee shop where I worked was there and the best shops were there as well.
I finally reach Bael street just as the sun set and people were heading home, Bael street was quiet at night and the closer you got to Believers Avenue the more alive the streets became.
Heading down into the darkness of the Undercity, my breathing seem too loud ruining the perfect silence.
The tracks are still there from a time when trains would run along them and the now empty stations would be filled with the sounds of life.
Reaching the base I quickly walked down the marble hallway that lead to main meeting room.
Jacob, Naomi and James were already there. I took my usual seat at the table, Jacob looked irritated, "what was so important that you took the risk of arranging a meeting over the phone, anyone could have been listening."
Before Jacob could give me an earful I quickly blurted out "I know where one of the Genesis Files is."
"What? How?" He asked
"Ever since I touched the Genesis File the weather had been reacting to my feelings and I found out today that the weather in Egypt has been mirroring the weather here."
"What has that got to do with anything?" I turned to look at Naomi who had a quizzical expression on her face.
"If it is being mirror in Egypt than that means that there is something is reacting to the Genesis File and I would beat anything that its another one."
"So we're going to Egypt?" James and Naomi both looked excited at the prospect of leaving Eden.
"It would seen so but there's just one problem." I turned to Jacob.
"What?"
"Where in Egypt?"
I smiled "Ciro, I forgot to mention that didn't I? I found out today that in the last week four people have gone missing all of them were last seen along the Nile and all of them were looking for something, their families assumed that they were looking for treasures in the Valley of the Kings but they are on the other side of Egypt from Cairo but what if they were looking for something else, something that got them killed."
"Something like a Genesis File." finished James.
"Exactly."
"How will we get there?" We all looked to Jacob who usually had all the answers.
"Well, we could sneak you out using the Undercity."
"How could we possibly use the Undercity? It only runs to the edges of Calvary."
He looked sheepish for a moment "well, that's not strictly true, the original only goes as far as Bael street but we have been adding to it since the wall went up."
"So we have our way out."
"Matt needs an agent from Exodus to go to Egypt so I'll meet you guys there."
We stayed for a few hours after that finalising everything, we were set to go in September, university would have to wait. I suppose I wouldn't a degree in history after I read the Genesis Files.
Sneaking back into Bael street under the cover of darkness I was surprised to find the city was completely silent. Even when I left Bael street silence reigned and the street lamps were out. that could only one thing, a carefree had been set.
I once again found myself saying why me as I tried to get back to the relative safety of my apartment.
Every footstep, every breath that I took was emphasised to the point where I winced at the sound.
I had that strange paranoid feeling you get when your alone but I ignored it, that was my mistake. As I reached the end of the Avenue I heard a thump and then a pain in my left shoulder.
Almost as soon as felt the pain in my shoulder I began to feel cold as if ice were flowing through my veins.
My limbs felt heavy and I only managed a few more steps before I let my body take over and I fell to my knees, I could hear hushed, frantic whispers and just before sleep overtook me I saw heavy, rubber boots running toward my prone body, lying on the wet and muddy ground.
