It shocked me how different Exodus was here than back in Eden. Here people knew about Exodus and its main purpose was to help. I loved it here.
But I was reminded of my main reason for coming here by a loud frame rattling knock at the window of the small attic room I had been given.
Looking out I could see the outline of two people. I knew that they would be James and Naomi.
Navigating my way through the twisty halls I finally found the exit after twenty minutes of fruitless searching.
Both were dressed in sandy coloured clothes, made to blend in with the desert backdrop.
"How long have you been here?"
Both looked slightly surprised as if they hadn't seen me coming. "Not very long, as it turns out the Undercity leads you right into the heart of Mexico City, it would-,"
"Be the perfect place to start a revolution. I know, I've thought about it." I looked back to the crumbling building that housed Exodus, "but I can't tell them that" I said pointing in that direction, "because they, being headstrong and foolish would jump right in and forget about the consequences."
James' phone let out a tinkling tune and he rushed to pick it up falling back from the small pool of light we were currently standing in curtesy of the street lamps.
"So," I said, "do you two have any ideas on where to start our search?"
"Yes," she pointed back out into the silent streets, "I think we should talk to the families first then go from there."
I nodded, "that makes sense but how do we find them?"
Before Naomi could reply James came back cursing under his breath, "we have a situation. The families are gone."
"Gone where exactly?"
He looked away, "gone for FTK questioning."
"Shit!" I jumped, on all the time I knew Naomi I had never heard her curse.
"What's wrong?"
She looked at me, "that's just another way of saying their dead. No one comes back from their questioning."
James had began to pace, "what I want to know" he said agitation clear in his voice, "is why the Council were looking for them."
All of us were silent for a moment before I had a though. "For the exact reason that we are. The Laws are looking for them too." Looking at the streets in suspicion, I thought that we were too exposed. If the Serpent are looking for the Files then I would be willing to bet that they have told the FTK to look for me too. "We need to go somewhere safe."
"Why?" asked James halting in his furious pacing.
"The walls have eyes and ears." I said pointing upwards at the camera on the wall. "We don't know if it's Exodus' or the Serpent's and it doesn't matter either way, this is a conversation that we don't want either side to hear. Where are you staying?"
James scratched the back of his head "we just got here, we're not staying anywhere."
"Right well," I looked back at the building in front of me "I could probably sneak you in without too much hassle." I began to walk back to the building, "come on, quickly."
Once we reached my room safely with only a slight mishap with a cleaner in the hallway Naomi and James were sitting comfortably on the two small chairs that y room had. "so you have any idea when to start looking because I have none. The families were my best bet."
Naomi nodded and began rummaging through the small backpack she was carrying and pulled out a map. setting it on the hardwood floor and using the pen she had taken from her pocket she began to circle an area. "here," she pointed to an area far to the south, "is the Valley of the Kings, where we think the four men were when they died. Here" she pointed to where Cairo was on the map "is where their bodies were found."
