Sitting on the docks, soaked through and shivering was how he found me at seven in the morning.
I could hear soft, rhythmic footsteps that seemed to get louder and closer with every passing minute. I would have looked around but I hadn't moved in hours and it felt like my body was frozen solid.
"Valery?"
I looked up to see Matt standing above me with an odd look on his face. "What are you doing out here, in the rain?"
"What are you doing out in the rain this early?"
I looked from his shorts to his trainers and them to the light sheen of sweat that covered his forehead. "I've been running," he looked at me for a moment. "Have you been out here all night?"
I sniffed then shivered "Maia and I had a fight."
"She kicked you out?" he sounded angry, furious in fact. He set off in the direction of the apartment "No, Stop!" I didn't wast him to talk to Maia and find out about me.
He froze, at first I thought he had listened but he didn't move and he was mid step.
"Matt?" he didn't move.I jumped up, my muscles protesting at the movement and I ran towards him. Matts eyes were moving around in panic but he his body didn't seem to be responding to it.
I could feel the panic rising but I pushed it away and focusing on Matt. On the way he walked and how he moved. It worked and his whole body shuddering he fell to the ground. Matt stared at me in silence but unlike Maia there was no fear in his eyes "How did you do that?"
I looked away "I don't know what you mean."
"Don't give me that crap, I couldn't move I couldn't even breath!"
He grabbed my arm to stop me from running away.
When I couldn't break his death grip on my arm I tried to look confused and bewildered, "How could I do something like that? I'm normal."
He smiled a bit "No your not."
"Should I be offended by that?"
I mean it in the best possible way." He seemed to have put what happened moments ago behind him as he gave me a smile that took my breath away.It was silent for a moment before Matt slowly began to move towards me and I held my breath, hoping that I wasn't imagining this.
A hand came up to cup my cheek and I closed my eyes. His lips brushed mine, I could feel my cheek burning and tingles shoot up my body.It was short sweet and everything a first kiss should be. He pulled back and tucked a stray curl behind my ear.
"I don't care what you did. It doesn't matter to me. You'll tell me when your ready."
"I...you just...with the." I gave myself a moment to calm down " What about Becka? Your together,"
He leaned back and ran a hand through his hair "No we're not."
"What? But Becka seemed so happy. If you broke her heart Matt I'll never forgive you."
"We aren't going out, we never were."
"I don't understand-"
He cut me off "I asked Becka to go out with me in the hopes that you actually notice I existed."
"You went out with Becka to make me jealous?"
The tips of Matts ears went slightly pink " When you put it like that, it sounds kind of stupid."
"No, it's sweet."
He gave me a skeptical look, "really?"
"Well just asking me out would have worked too but the fact that you put in so much effort is really sweet."
