A code red, this could not be happening. A code red is the term we use when one of our operatives cover is blown.
I stopped running, knowing it would make me stand out, and if there is one thing you did not want to do in Calvary, Eden's capital is stand out. The FACs were known to take random people to Babble tower, Eden's prison, for questioning it was better just to blend in.
Calvary is a beautiful city, not very modern. It is perched on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean and the city always had that clean sea breeze wafting in from the docks. Its tall stone buildings have been worn away by years of the salty spray hitting them. Calvary always has lights in the streets and a huge market every Saturday. It was a great place to live, well, on the outside it was but when you looked closer past the rainbow of colour and the proud stone buildings, you saw the destitute on each corner and the unemployed having to beg for their next meal. It is a place of corruption with no room for those trying to make an honest living.
Eventually I got to the Red Sea night club in downtown Calvary. It was a fairly old building with a neon sign above it and peeling posters saying what band were playing when. The night club was run by Exodus; it was also where head of operations inside Eden was based. The bar was deserted as it was only five fifteen. I walked casually to the basement where there was a door hidden behind an old, dusty bookcase. I pushed the door open and silently walked to the meeting room, as I got closer I could hear a whispered argument.
"How in the hell did they get caught, and more importantly who is going to take their place?"
"Two of the nicest people in the world are being sent to their deaths and all you can think about is the job? You disgust me."
"Well someone has too..."
I couldn't place the voices, who were they talking about what job?
"Enough!" Everyone suddenly the voices went silent. There was a voice a new, Matt the leader of Exodus.
"Look, Becka and Adam are going to inform on the Serpent I know what you're all thinking, the Serpent won't trust them, they will. As soon as Becka and Adam found out, they went to them and renounced their parents. That's why there not here, the Serpent is watching them."
My whole body went cold. Becka and Adam, but why would they need to inform on the council, we had Mary and Able ... that meant, Mary and Able were the code red.
A sob shook my body as I walked into the meeting room, all heads turned my way, I didn't even notice I only had eyes for Matt we had a silent conversation and he slowly nodded his head. Another sod took hold of me and I felt a burning sensation in my chest.
Matt pulled me into his chest but he was not the one I wanted comfort from, the people I wanted comfort from weren't here. They were... I pulled back just enough to see Matts face
"Where?" I managed to choke out
"The Crossroads."
I felt the tears fall then, my surrogate parents were in The Crossroads. It was Hell on earth, no one knows what happens in there because no one has every escaped, but at night they say you can hear the screams of its occupants.
"How... How did this happen?"
He looked at me for a moment "It's partly my fault," before I could say anything Matt held up his hand "please, let me finish, they were doing a job. I had asked them to place a listening device in the Serpents meeting room and... I think that this would be better if you heard it." He held up a speaker and pressed play.
Mary voice suddenly drifted into the silent room, as if she were there. "Hurry Able, I can hear someone coming."
"I'm going as fast as I can! If only-" There was a sudden bang and the speaker went dead. There was silence in the meeting room as everyone digested what they had just heard. I suddenly turned to Matt
It wasn't your fault, they.... they knew the risks when the joined Exodus."
Matt just looked at me "You've no idea what that means to hear you say that." That comment made me blush. Even in times like these Matt always found a way to me uncomfortable or catch me off guard with a breath taking smile or a strange comment.
No stop it Valery! You need to focus on Mary and Able. You need to find a way to get them out. Every time I thought about them it sunk me a bit lower into my grief until I was almost drowning in it. They were going to die if I didn't do something. Adam and Becka couldn't help they were still in the knowledge Dome working for the Serpent.
White hot anger replaced my grief. They weren't going to die, not in the Crossroads, I wouldn't allow it. I turned around to look at the rest of Exodus.
"Were getting them out." It was a statement not a question.
Matt threw me his lopsided grin
"Hell yeah we are! Everybody you heard the lady, we're breaking into The Crossroads." Nobody argued.
I should probably explain about Matt, his parents started Exodus, so when they were killed in a plane crash a few years ago, Matt and his three brothers took over the operation. Johnny is based in Egypt, Lucas in Japan, Marco in Spain and as you know, Matt here in Eden. Even though they are so young, they make great leaders. They have somehow managed to keep Exodus a secret from the Serpent for five years, but I think that they will know if they have Able and Mary.
Anyway back to Matt. He's tall with messy black hair and dark brown eyes. Sometimes he can be a bit immature, he's a workaholic he also tends to be a bit OCD and I'm head over heels for him. Don't ask me why, I don't even know the answer to that, but I am.

I had been walking around the base for a few hours know, just staring into space, nobody tried to talk to me not even my best friend Maia. I guess they were all too scared, I could be pretty explosive when I wanted to be.
The tinny voice blaring out of the overhead speakers made me jump "All operatives go to mission control for a full briefing."
I couldn't believe it, this was really happening we were breaking into the crossroads, one of the most heavily guarded places in Eden..
