Whispers

When I got out the sun was high in the sky and Bael street was full of people.

Even though its people were poor, the atmosphere was much happier that in other, wealthier parts of the city. The FACs don't usually come here and so it really doesn't feel like the rest of Calvery.

The people smile more and say hello to each other as they scurried down the street. Sometimes I wished that I hadn't been taken in by the Hopes and that I lived here, but then I think of Cain, Jacob and Maia. All of theses amazing people I would never have met if I hadn't been in Eden when the gate opened.

The gates and their keeper, that was something I hadn't thought possible this morning, that magic was real and there were other worlds out there. It just seemed to unrealistic, on top of that, if the keeper was telling the truth that meant that the Genesis Files will be harder to find that I had originally thought.

Looking up to Knowledge Dome I couldn't help but think that Adam and Eve were doing so much more than simply not helping the people outside of Eden, they were causing famine, drought, disease and they would eventually destroy everything that human kind has worked for for thousands of years. All because they were selfish and wanted a different, better life than they had had in the first Eden.

The clock struck one and I realised that I would be late for work...again. Running through the streets I got the cafe half an hour hour late.

John began to walk towards me, red faced and out of breath. I gave him a sheepish grin. "Sorry." I mouthed while putting on my apron.

John reached me just as the door opened and a hush fell over the cafe.

Looking up, a severe looking woman came into the cafe, her platinum blond hair streaked with grey and dark brown, almost black eyes stared around the room as she sat at a small table in the corner. Following her in was a young girl about my age, she looked similar to the older woman with her brown eyes but she had her fathers golden hair. It was Eve and Clara Eden.

As soon as they sat down the cafe broke out in voices once more. John was moving towards the table but his people skills would get him thrown into Babble Tower. Touching him on the shoulder I said, "I got this."

Moving towards the table I stumbled and Eve or Kerina, held out her hand to steady me, grabbing hold of her fur coat I quickly placed a small, clear listening device no bigger than my thumb nail on the inside of the cuff of her sleeve.

Muttering a quick apology I took their orders and walked back to the counter trying to hide my smile.

Returning with their coffee, I could see that Clara Eden was quite beautiful but in an approachable way. She unlike her mother was smiling and looking around her in excitement as if she had never been in a cafe before.

I caught the eye of Eve and I smiled but she simply sniffed in refined indignation. Shortly afterwards, she and her daughter left, heading in the direction Gabriel's square. The higher class part of Calvary.

The closer you get to the centre of Calvary, the better the quality of living becomes. With Gabriel's square right in the middle and Bael street running around the rim of the city.

Myself and Maia lived closer to Bael street than we did to Gabriel's square. We live on the Angels staircase.

Calvary is a natural bowl, it wasn't always I know that from old maps of New York but the over the years earthquakes and hurricanes had changed the landscape.

Normally, the bowl would mean that most streets were on a slope. Not Calvary, instead they built staircases and different levels, this meant that some homes and shops were built on stairs. Maia and I lived on one of these staircases, hence the name.
