Epilogue

“How’s it going?” Nate asked me as he stood next to me clad in a black and white tux.

“Things are great. How are the girls?” I asked as I kept my eyes at the double doors.

“They’re developing an unbelievable hero worship towards Tristan it’s pretty funny. They always want the food or toys that he uses. He accommodates them which suits us just fine” Nate replied in a chuckle.

“That’s good. I miss you guys.”

“You should come visit more often the kids miss their favourite uncle” Nate said patting me on the shoulder

“Hey, what am I chopped liver?” Nick interjected overhearing our conversation

“No Nick, you’re my favourite brother” Nate retorted making me chuckle

“I’m your only brother! Jeez, thanks for nothing” he stated feigning hurt making me and Nate chuckle together.

“Keep it down boys” Mr. Ashburn scolded us. We all made a sign of zipping our lips shut just as the double doors opened. We all looked up in that direction.

She started making her way where the four of us stood. She looked like her face is about to break from smiling too much. People around her stood in awe as she walked with the grace of royalty.

Not only that but her champagne coloured dress hugs every curve she has letting everybody who looks at her know that she takes good care of her body. She made eye contact with each of us at the end of the altar and when her eyes met mine she winked at me. I returned her wink with a proud smile as she took the final steps up the altar with her man standing next to her.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, we are here to witness and celebrate the renewal of vows of Natasha Antoinette Mead-Ashburn and Jason Emery Ashburn…” began the reverend.

It’s been seven months since Alie and I talked about our feelings with each other. I mean it wasn’t like a huge declaration of love festival but it was a whirlwind though.

On Christmas, she and I celebrated it with all the family members and after that we didn’t see each other again until New Year’s Eve. Her resolution was for us to try and become friends again. Just like how we were before there were any feelings involved.

I agreed even though I knew she was having a hard time adjusting to the fact that we can’t be intimate or that my teasing her had relatively lessened. Okay, I admit even I had a hard time doing it since I am head over heels in love with her but I held back because I want her to enjoy being single.

As the time went on, it felt like I started falling in love with her all over again. It’s weird because the more I fought it, the more my feelings for her got stronger. So, I busied myself with work for my family and travelled between North America and Europe.

It was odd because Alie is now just stationed in North America since she came back from San Sebastian a few months back. Unlike before it was her who kept on travelling and now the situation is reversed. She is also helping out Julio and Angelina get settled when Alie suggested for them to move to North America so she can help out Carmen’s family.

The vow renewal ceremony was quicker than a normal wedding since some things were not done. The crowd cheered when the celebrated couple kissed. My sister Liz came up to the couple and then stood next to Nate who wrapped an arm around her waist pulling her in for a kiss.

Next came, Jane who did the same thing only coming up to her husband Nick who almost mimicked his brother’s actions. Alie came up to her parents with a brood of nephew and nieces. She had her hands full of the twins and it was a sight to see her juggle both girls in her arms. I couldn’t help but come up to her and offer my assistance. She handed me Carmel and kept Christiane in her arms.

“She’s her favourite” Tristan stated next to me

“What makes you say that?” I asked the toddler

Instead of getting an answer from the tyke, my sister came up to me and scooped Carmel out of my hands. She gave a mysterious smile before speaking her mind.

“It’s just a theory but it might be because Christiane shares the same eye colour as you. That’s just a thought” Liz winked at me before walking back to Nate with Tristan and Carmel.

I watched my sister’s retreating figure and when she reached her husband, I turned to watch Alie interact with the baby in her arms. She’s talking to her in hushed tones as she kisses the kid’s cheeks every now and then. I didn’t even know how or when I started walking to where they stood but I found myself staring at my niece with new eyes.

Liz is right. Christiane has the same dark blue eyes that shine like sapphires. If she had dark brown hair she could have easily been mistaken as mine but no her hair is a bright blonde colour like her mother or even Alie’s.

Huh, I wonder when Alie and I have kids would they look as gorgeous as Christiane? Whoa, where did that come from? It’s not like I’m actively having sex with her let alone dating her! So, why did that even cross my mind? Although, it would really be great if…

“What are you thinking?” Alie broke through my fantasy as she elbowed me slightly on the ribs.

“What are you doing after the party?” I asked

“Nothing why?” she replied looking confused by my sudden serious tone

“I’d like to talk to you. If that’s okay” I communicated the unspoken message with my eyes as I stare at her with a small hopeful smile.

“I’d like that very much” she returned my smile before rejoining everyone.

I guess this will be our beginning. I hope that it lasts for a long time. She and I have been through a lot of heartache with each other but most of them are unintentional. Now that there’s nothing stopping us from being together all we have to worry now is how to stay together. I know I’m not letting her go so easily and I am positive that she shares my sentiments as well.
