Chapter 3

Tuesday night

Josh

The night went on and dinner was tacos as every Tuesday was. Normally I love tacos but tonight I just wasn't feeling it.

I told everyone about Debby and what happened and got nothing but things like "you'll be okay" and "somethings weren't meant to be." I just nodded at them and got up putting my plate away before going up to my room. It was the safest place I could be alone in with just my thoughts.

I sat in my room alone in the dark. Hours later my mom came in and sat next to me after turning on my light.

"Josh I know this is hard for you but trust me you'll be fine. And now you can talk to Tyler without guilt." She smiled at me and I couldn't help but smile back at her.

"thanks mom." she kissed my head and said goodnight leaving me alone again. I laid back going through today again.

Why was Tyler talking to me now? Before this morning he only ordered ice cream from me and that was it. I thought it over again and again. Maybe he was just being nice. Or maybe he's just doing it because his friends told him too. Enough thoughts let's play some music.

I put in earbuds and turned my music on to try to fall asleep. Sleep doesn't happen and the music only fueled my thoughts, and they all lead to Tyler. Then I remembered his note and took it out. I put his number in my phone and paced around a little trying to deside what I wanted to text him. Hi? No. Hey? Nope. Sup? I'm not that cool. Salutations? Yeah that's good and he'll have to know it's me. I send the message and looked at the time. I hope he's up at 2 am.

Tyler
As im laying in my bed scrolling through tumblr, i get a message from a random number:
(xxx)-xxx-xxxx: Salutations

That has to be Josh

Me: Is this Jish
(xxx)-xxx-xxxx: Its Josh
Me: Oh hey jish What r u doin up at 2am?
Jishwa <3: Whos jish? And type out your words are you like five
Me: U's jish. & i txt how i wantz m8
Jishwa <3: How are you passing english?
Me: U wonna f8 m8
Jishwa <3: What?
Me: U wonna go
Jishwa <3: Go where?
Me: Leggo bro
Me: I'll take u out
Me: On a date
Me: ?
Jishwa <3: What? I dont think thats a great way to get over someone Tyler
Me: Bro i was jus kitten
Me: Kiddin*
Me: Oops lol
Jishwa <3: Can we get a round of applause from the cocky basketball player?
Me: *curtsies and catches rose in mouth* tank u, thx
Jishwa <3: Now you seem like a cocky theater kid
Me: I tri

Me: Aww u tink im an angel ? :)
Jishwa <3: No
Me: :,(
Jishwa <3: I mean you are
Me: :D
Jishwa <3: But I didnt call you one
Me: :,(
Jishwa <3: Why are you up still doesn't the star player need to be at practice tomorrow
Me: Oh jish, dont u no slep is 4 the week
Jishwa <3: You used the wrong weak
Me: Wat day of the weak is it ?
Jishwa <3: Thats not what I meant ugh

Jishwa <3: Well apparently getting cancer from your messages
Me: :o
Me: Rood
Jishwa <3: What are you doing up at 2 am?
Me: Can't sleep
Jishwa <3: Why not?
Me: My thoughts keep me awake
Jishwa <3: Oh that sucks
Me: & im textin a really kool dud rn
Jishwa <3: Im not cool
Jishwa <3: But ice cream is
Jishwa <3: And we both work in ice cream shops
Me: OOOOH *meme of the circle of guys jump and scream*
Jishwa <3: Is it sad that I know exactly which one you're talking about
Me: Its bc im a meme queen™
Jishwa <3: The only queen you are is a drama queen
Me: Boi u talkin to the wrong gurl
Jishwa <3: If I die its because of the cancer you're giving me
Me: Lol wydz rn
Jishwa <3: Laying in bed
Me: Fun. Imma bout to go on a walk. Wanna come?
Jishwa <3: Sure give me five minutes and I'll be down
Me: Yay =^_^= meet me @ur shop

I put on my black vans as quickly as i could with a smile on my face. I went over to my window and slid it open. I crawled out and onto the ground. I was lucky to live in a one story house. I started the walk to 21st street.

As i approached the Dun's ice cream shop, i already saw Josh waiting there. I smiled and started walking faster towards him. Once i was closer i could see his face in the street lights. He smiled back at me and brought me into an unexpected hug. I melted into his hug and held onto him tighter.

"Hi" i whispered into his ear. He let out a giggle and whispered back.

"Hey" his breath hit my ear and brought shivers down my spine. We pulled away and stared at each other in silence. But this silence was different than our 17 year long silence. This one was comforting.

I began to realize that sometimes you dont need words to connect with someone. All those years, we drew close and closer together without saying anything to each other.  Like opposite magnets. Words are wasted in this world. People talk non stop about nonsense. They don't get to feel the silence like i do. Quiet is scary to them. They feel like they have to fill the silence to avoid tension and awkwardness. But if you are with the right person, you don't need to fill the silence with words. Its already being filled with the connection you have with the person. You know what they are saying in how they act, what their body does. And sometimes words aren't powerful enough to express how you are feeling, so you have to take action; and thats exactly what i did.

I grabbed the back of Josh's neck and brought his face to mine. I hesitated to see if he would pull back, our lips inches apart. When he finally stepped closer to me and nudged me with his nose i close the gap between our lips. I exhaled into the kiss and closed my eyes, taking in everything. His soft lips lightly against mine, the warmth of his body resting against me. The feeling was so foreign and at the same time i've never felt more comfortable with someone in my whole life.

Josh pulled away slightly and entangled our fingers while resting our foreheads together. He smiled and looked into my eyes.

"What was that for?" He asked. I smiled back.

"Just making up for all those years i didn't close the silence between us." He kissed me on the lips again and then my nose before speaking:

"Im glad you did what i didn't have the guts to do."
