Damaria took a deep breath and then let it out. Lance and Gemma had just left her penthouse and she was getting ready for work. Though it was the weekend she knew there had to be tones of people coming to the museum, especially considering the recent murders that had occurred. People were flocking in from all around and they were staying at Lance's hotel, which was across from the museum.
Damaria grabbed her purse and keys before heading out of her room. On her way out she met Maria in the kitchen. "Maria, do you know where Ryder and Libby have went?"
"Yes, I believe she said something about shopping." Maria turned to smile at Damaria as she walked by.
"Did she go alone?" A note of worry entered her voice and Maria shook her head softly.
"No Miss, Ryder went with her." Damaria quirked an eyebrow before nodding and exiting the penthouse. She was mildly surprised, considering Ryder usually like to keep to his group of friends only. He was used to staying isolated that way.
Outside the weather wasn't too cold or too hot. It was still Fall and so the weather was to get colder. She swiftly walked to her SUV and got inside. The events from last night completely pushed to the back of her mind.
Sticking to the speed limit, Damaria made it to the museum in a sufficient amount of time. She could see Paige had already opened the doors and begun work. As she entered she saw Orion speaking with one of the older historians about the new exhibit.
Damaria was placing her purse on her desk when she noticed a bright yellow sticky note placed on the calendar. She reached over and read the curvy writing.
Mr. Larsen has scheduled a meeting for 8:00.
-Paige Collins
Damaria looked up at the clock and groaned. That is approximately in twenty minutes and she had yet to manage a decent cup of coffee.
Damaria called Paige to ask her for some coffee before getting to work. She reached towards her desk drawer where most of her files were placed, opening it she was faced with the sight of a letter. In a distant memory she could remember herself putting the letter into the drawer. She hesitated before reaching forward and grabbing the letter.
The envelope was a smooth white piece of paper. Damaria hesitated to open the letter. On the front three words were written in uppercase block letters; AN OLD FRIEND. Damaria couldn't remember ever having any friends. In fact all she could remember was trying to survive high school. For her friends had been something she never had and would never have.
With trembling hands, Damaria ripped the side of the envelope and then pulled the folded piece of paper out. It was a black sheet with writing done in white. She thought of the night sky upon unfolding the letter. Again in uppercase block writing a series of paragraphs were written.
OLD FRIEND,
YOU'VE CHANGED. OVER THE YEARS THAT I HAVE KNOWN YOU, YOU HAVE BECOME SOMETHING I WOULD NEVER HAVE IMAGINED. IN A WAY I SHOULD HAVE EXPECTED IT. YOU SEE I KNEW YOU IN HIGH SCHOOL AND WE WERE...FRIENDS FOR A WHILE. BUT I GUESS WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES AND MINE WAS YOU. I WAS WRONG TO LEAVE MY...BEST FRIEND TO FEND FOR HERSELF.
I KOW YOU HATE PITY BUT SEEING YOU EVERYDAY STRUGGLE TO SURVIVE SOMETHING THAT NOT ONLY WAS I PART OF BUT I ENCOURAGED. I KNOW YOU NEVER TOLD ANYONE OR WE'D ALL BE IN JAIL FOR EVERYTHING WE DID TO YOU. AND I THANK YOU AND HATE YOU FOR NEVER TELLING SOME ONE. MAYBE IF YOU HAD STOOD UP TO US THEN WE WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER, MAYBE OUR LIVES WOULD HAVE DIFFERENT, MAYBE THE WORLD WOULD HAVE BEEN DIFFERENT.
