So sorry.

Chapter Song: Buckcherry - Sorry

I wake up with a rag over my face.

Someone is pushing it into my face and it doesn't take a genius to know who it was by the black and white hair. I grab at Paine's wrists, trying to yank her off of me. After a few thrashes, I manage to push her off of me, sending us both sprawling on the floor of the tent.

She looks up at me, with that hideous, ugly face she has when she's angry. I snarl right back.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" I demand, baring my teeth.

"How long did you think you could get away with it?" She says, even though I'm pretty sure it's a rhetorical question. "I knew since you came back from that damned bird cage that you were up to no good."

"Then why'd you let me stay?" I say as I rise up off the floor, ready to fight the general of the Dark Angels. She rises up off the ground as well and we begin to circle around each other.

Our eyes never leave each other as we circle like animals in the wild.

"I was curious," she answers simply. "I will end you here."

"No," I say. "You want a taste of the Skies power, huh? Come get it."

"You're not the sister I want."

"I'm the only one you're gonna get. Because when this battle is done, I'm gonna be the one to walk out of here alive. And you? You're gonna be dead."

With a slow grin, she says, "I suppose I can fight you instead of that incompetent Pariah. But if we are to fight, we are going to do this properly."

"Lead the way, then."

Paine brings me to a remote temple in the city. Beyond the workers, beyond the camp. She places her hand on a portion of the wall and the entire place lights up for a brief moment, before it settles back into darkness again.

I take a look over Paine and feel my adrenaline begin pumping in my veins.

The fight Erin was supposed to have, she is now having with me. I will not let her win. I will die before I let that happen. And I might just.

As we begin to circle each other again, I realize the reality of this. Paine was my father's wife, she hurt Erin and so many other with her sick fascination, she is unstoppable.

But I will end her life here.

Paine raises her arms up over her head, then brings them slowly down, placing her palms together and lowering them to her chest. "Are you ready, daughter of Fate?"

"As ready as I'll ever be."

"Then be prepared. Because this ends here," when her eyes open, she darts toward me. And the battle begins.

Slowly, but surely, my eyes reopen again.

This time, I can feel the weight on my left and I know the artificial limb has been restored. Meaning one thing, I was back in the land of the living. I turn over on my side, groaning shortly and then lifting myself off of the sand yet again. The feeling of my jeans being soaked and sticking to my skin wasn't pleasant. What was even more unpleasant was the conversation I had with my self back in the Island of the Dead.

Hinnah was dead.

And I needed to end things with Myrina.

It really crashed on me when I leaned against my palms and stared down at my silhouette.
