Chapter Song: Kristian Leontiou - The Years Move On
❗❗❗
The fleet on my right were knocked down by the gust of energy I sent toward them, another one came running out, alone, I ducked when he jabbed with the blade, I gathered another ball of energy in my palm and charged at his unguarded chest. When my fist made contact, he blasted backwards, into another guy. With a swift jump over another weapon, I threw a rather normal kick, which was oddly effective on the guy, who just slipped backwards, his chin raised high.
Jones was quite busy as well. She had slipped down on her hands and feet by the time I looked back just to be sure she was still alive. I didn't miss the way her back arched sometimes and she'd growl, like some kind of animal. Well, it's fine as long as she stays alive. She jumped on top of one guy, who threw his hands into the air and screeched to "get this thing off me!" and went down to the ground. Jones spun around when he was out of the way and I watched as one threw his sword blade at her.
Out of sheer panic, I threw my hand out, ignoring the guy who was grabbing me from behind. The energy knocked into him and luckily for Jones, he slammed his back into another one who had attempted to get Jones as well. She threw me a tight nod of approval and I brought my elbow into whoever had me by the arm. He bent over in more surprise than hurt, probably and I smacked the back of my head into his face. A sickening crack could be heard.
I slipped into a gap of people, to get toward Jones. I offered my hand out to her. She grabbed it and I lugged her onto her feet. She joined me into a full out sprint toward the horizon. I had my backpack in one hand, and Jones's hand in the other. The fleet came after us, for sure.
We kept going for a while, until my sides were hurting and I was pretty sure that I wouldn't need the exercise for a while. Jones didn't even seem remotely tired yet. But she luckily caught onto my fatigue and stopped running. I skidded to a stop as well. "What the hell are you doing?! Let's go!"
Without warning, she bent down until she was on her hands and knees. "Get on!"
"What?!" I cried out and felt an arrow go right past my head. I yelped and jumped, the fleet of people came even closer. "This is crazy, just get up!"
"I know where to go, but you're going to get too tired if you don't hurry!" She was ordering me now, it wasn't a question.
My cheeks inflamed as I took a step closer. As I swung leg over her back, I whispered to her. "If you tell anyone about this, I'll kill you, Jones."
"I'm not happy about it either, Skies." She looked back with her inky eyes. "Hold on tight." Then she ran off, like a complete animal, into the field, with the same speed as if we were running. I didn't know what to hold onto, so I just held onto her shoulders and prayed to whatever god was listening that I didn't fall off. Not only would that be embarrassing, but I'll probably die if I do.
Another arrow sailed right past us. The sound of something galloping could be heard behind us. I know that it wasn't Jones either. I casted a side-long look to my right and sure enough, a freaking horse is riding at full speed toward us. I reach back and slap Jones's ass. "Hurry!"
"Don't touch my ass!" She yells back at me, totally ignoring the fact that they've got a contingency plan. "Use your Magic!" She orders me as she takes a zigzagging turn to the right. We go down a hill and I find myself having to lean back so I don't fall forward.
A horse rode alongside us, one of the men attempting to shoot an arrow at me, I could see his arm reel back. I cry out in panic and toss my hand at him, he and his horse stumbled until the horse tripped over himself and tossed the guy off of its back. As we kept going, I could see trees in the distance. Jones ran faster until she was running so fast, the horses were struggling to keep up. She growled and looked back. The horses were getting further away from us.
