Chapter Song: Hurts - Stay

|||

I ran across the deck of the ship and peered over the side of the massive ship and spotted my army.

They were yelling at the top of their lungs and tossing their hands in the air. I smile when I see this and turn to Myrina, with a smile of her own on her lips. I turned to the captain of the ship and say, "We have more passengers." I tell him and he nods as he slows the ship down until we were sinking to the ground to board them.

As soon as the people are able to crawl on board, the deck is beginning to fill up. I see Bella and she rushes toward us. She wraps me up in a hug and pulls back to look over my face. "Goddess, what happened?"

I glance at Hazel, who's still rather absent-minded.

Bella rolls her eyes. "It told you it was a bad idea to bring her along."

But we couldn't talk much about it, since Silent came walking through the crowd, calmer than most. He nods his head at me, freakily, without even seeing me. He didn't need to. He was just good at that. He joined our small group and reached out, grabbing onto my chin and tilting my head back and forth, as if he were looking at the wound and could see it.

With a small shake of his head, he says, "Reckless again, I see."

I roll my eyes. "It's not my fault."

"Doesn't matter," he drops his hand to his side and moves it behind his back. "It seems the power inside of you has prevented you from being wounded."

"It's never worked so fast before," I comment. I look at Myrina and gently remove the strip of cloth around the slash on her arm. When it's removed, I see a slick line, but it's already sealed up. Myrina and I share a look and I feel a slight blush when I realize that she'd bitten me. Is it still visible? "Eh, it seems to work for other people too."

"If you learn to control that power and use it to your advantage, it could result in doing tremendous things for you in the future." Silent says, with a raise of his eyebrows upon hearing the news.

Suddenly, Bella slips into the conversation and she doesn't look too happy. She actually looks panicky. "Wait, you're trying to control that power?"

"That's the idea," I confirm, unsure of why she was acting like this all of the sudden.

She shakes her head at me and grabs onto my arms, suddenly. "No, Erin. No, that's not a good idea at all. Okay? Listen to me, you don't want to do that."

I take a step back away from my sister, causing her hands to drop. I see Jones looking at Bella with a worried look and now I feel worried too. "Bella, what's going on?"

She straightens up, looking conflicted. "Nothing. Look, I just don't like the idea."

"No, tell me. You're acting like you know something." I lean closer, narrowing my eyes. I may not have spent my whole life with Bella, but I certainly know when someone's hiding something from me. I don't like this. "Tell me."

Nothing but silence responds.

"I'm demanding you tell me now, Bella. I'm not asking."

"Fuck you, Erin. You're not the boss of me."

"Whatever you're hiding has something to do with me. I'll be damned if I'm gonna sit here and pretend like I don't see it. You're gonna fucking tell me. Or I'm gonna force it out of you."

"I know what it is." Hazel comes out of her unconscious state to break the news. I turn to my sister and Bella's breath hitches. She looks calm, even though just a few moments ago, she was just as blank as she was before. She looks between Bella and I and not at all worried when Bella gives her a warning to keep her mouth shut. Instead, she just turns to me and says, "You're dead."
